Maitreya (poem attributed to 1st Dalai Lama)

When the mighty sun of Protector Maitreya shines
On the peak of the Bodhgaya mountain
Through the opening of the lotus of my wisdom
May I satisfy the fortunate beings
Just like insects are satisfied by the nectar in a lotus.

At that time Protector Maitreya will joyfully
Place his right hand on my head and
Predict my attainment of supreme and unsurpassable enlightenment
Thus may I achieve the state of Buddhahood quickly
For the benefit of sentient beings.
— By the First Dalai Lama, during construction of the Maitreya Buddha statue in Tashi Lhunpo monastery, Tibet.
