It's What You Live For That Counts (poem)

I live for the death
of misery everywhere,
for I really care
for the ones no one wants:
the helpless, the hated ones.

You who live for love
should only beware of death,
and putrid corpses
that are the old seven sins,
and the eighth: consumerism.

It's only what I die for
that counts in this life.
Living for the sake of it
disgusts the holy
who has no sympathy for you.

So live for yourself,
and love and hate equally,
ever mindfully.
Do as you will but harm none.
Save the rest for the holy.
