The I'm Older Poem

When I was younger, I used to live deep in my head
So deep that I had to pull myself out of bed,
and drag myself to work and home until I was almost dead.
Now I know better, and I'm not such a fool to feel
like Superman, able to handle what life may deal,
my head up in the clouds flying like the Man of Steel.
For I am mortal, and when you cut me I will bleed.
My ego's reigned in like a bridled steed,
and my heart wishes and hopes to do a good deed.
Every day I am thankful that I am still alive.
There's nothing stopping me from trying to strive
for the best thing in life, trying to survive.
Because I am older, I live day by day.
I'm more willing to hope and pray,
to dance with joy, and to try to say:
"Life is good to me, and can be for you!
Be thankful and loving is all you've got to do,
Cos compassion makes everything feel so true!"
