April 14, 2008: Most of the material of this document is stolen from the UBC Board of Governors site at http://www.bog.ubc.ca/index.html
None of the commentaries should be taken as serious. However, concerned students at UBC should be asking why more business people sit on the board of governors than do faculty members of standing and former graduates.
As well, students should connect the dots. The people on the BOG appears to behind the increased consumerism on campus as well as determining policy with regard to student activists on campus i.e. the procedure of calling police and fire department rather than determining the situation by non-aggressive consultation with leaders of a specific rally or event.
This list also spins the same old BS student activists, their supporters and counter-revolutionaries on campus already know about but haven't exposed to greater scrutiny by local media and the world at large.

Sarah and her husband live in North Vancouver, British Columbia. They have four children and one large dog.
Sarah is a member of ENMAX’s Audit and Finance Committee.
Commentary:
Morgan-Silvester is of the North Shore clique of the rich and power, most of whose illustrious members have moved, or are about to move, to West Vancouver. Formerly the head of HSBC Trust, she now oversees with two other members, the investment money pouring into Inhance Investment Management. As former president of the Hongkong Bank Mortgage Corporation, she approved of mortgage loans and other monies related to real estate. IMHO, Brad Bennett may have had something to do with her appointment, as a real estate broker needs an inside man in mortgage loans to help fund further development of UBC land.
Stephen J. Toope, A.B. (Harvard), B.C.L. / LL.B. (McGill), Ph.D. (Cantab.) - President and Vice-Chancellor of UBC
Biography and Education
Named the 12th President of The University of British Columbia on March 22, 2006, Prof. Stephen Toope was most recently President of the Pierre Elliott Trudeau Foundation, a position he held since 2002. He helped set up the Foundation, which had an initial endowment of $125 million, and created all Foundation programming in conjunction with an 18-member Board. The Foundation is an independent, private, and non-partisan organization created to promote outstanding research and interaction between researchers in the social sciences and humanities, and policymakers in government, business, and the arts.
Previously, Prof. Toope served as co-director of the Institute for European Studies, a joint University of Montreal-McGill University project, from 2000-2002 and was responsible for launching an inter-university research and teaching centre.
From 1994-1999, Prof. Toope served as the youngest dean in the history of McGill University’s Faculty of Law. As dean, he launched and managed a strategic plan to reorganize the Faculty’s undergraduate curriculum and led the successful completion of the then-largest capital campaign in Canadian law faculty history, resulting in the rebuilding of the McGill Law Library.
Prof. Toope served as the Associate Dean, Graduate Studies and Research at McGill Faculty of Law from 1991-1994 after achieving full professorship in 1999. He became an Associate Professor in 1993 after serving as an Assistant Professor in McGill’s Faculty of Law from 1987-1993 upon completion of his PhD. He served as Law Clerk to the Rt. Hon. Chief Justice Dickson of the Supreme Court of Canada from 1986-1987.
Political Affliations
An accomplished public speaker in both English and French, his scholarly interests cover public international law, legal theory, human rights, international dispute resolution and family law. He continues to conduct research and teach on many aspects of international law and is currently working on issues of human rights and culture, and international human rights law.
As a former president of the Canadian Council on International Law, Prof. Toope has served as board chair and member of various non-governmental organizations promoting human rights and international development, including the Canadian Human Rights Foundation and the World University Service of Canada. He represented Western Europe and North America on the United Nations Working Group on Enforced or Involuntary Disappearances from 2002-2005.
The recipient of academic publishing awards from the Canadian Tax Foundation and the American Society of International Law, Prof. Toope has provided extensive consultation on international human rights, international law, and legal reform to the Canadian Departments of Foreign Affairs and Justice, and the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA). He has also conducted human rights seminars for government officials in Canada, Malaysia, Singapore, and Indonesia, and was a member of the UN observer delegation to the first post-apartheid South African elections.
A Canadian citizen, Prof. Toope earned his PhD from Trinity College, Cambridge, England and his undergraduate degree in common law (LLB) and civil law (BCL) with honours from McGill University (1983), and graduated magna cum laude with his AB in History and Literature from Harvard University (1979).
Personal:
Stephen Toope is married to Paula Rosen and they have three children.
Commentary:
Toope is from England, and is a lawyer. Given his human rights background, he should be more sympathetic of the plight of students.
He is more of a McGill alumni than a real UBC alumni.
In fact, he did not graduate from UBC. Hence he is good in misleading students.
He is definitely establishmentarian, and most likely to play politics with students.
Brad Bennett - Chair
Brad Bennett has been President of McIntosh Properties Ltd., a real estate investment and holding company based in Kelowna, British Columbia since 1989.
He has served on a number of private and public company boards and is currently a Director of B.C. Advantage Funds, Sidetrack Technologies Inc. , Quails’ Gate Estate Winery and Lodgepole Energy Management Corp.
A strong believer in community service, Brad is presently Chair of the University of British Columbia’s Board of Governors, Chair of the UBC Okanagan Regional Advisory Council and Director of the UBC Properties Trust. Brad also serves as a Director of the Premier’s Technology Council.
Past Community service positions include being Chair of Okanagan University College, Director of Okanagan University College Foundation, Chair of the Kelowna General Hospital Foundation, Founding Co-Chair of the Okanagan Partnership Regional Economic Development Strategy, Chair of the City of Kelowna’s Rotary Centre for the Arts Building Committee and Honourary Co-Chair for the Central Okanagan Hospice Building Campaign.
Brad attended BCIT in 1979, a graduate of Marketing Management.
Brad was the recipient of the Queen’s Golden Jubilee Award Medal in 2002, The City of Kelowna’s Businessman of the Year honour in 2005 and received the Honourary Alumni Award from the University of British Columbia in 2007.
Commentary:
It's possible that Bennet is related to the development on UBC property, given his real estate background. The lack of biographical details indicates that he has no prior academic experience, given that he is a BCIT grad and not a UBC grad like Garg or even a university grad like the President. His extensive private and public company record indicates that he has lots of money, likes to invest and to drink fine wines. His tie to the UBC Properties Trust and his real estate background shows that it may be due to his initiative that the Board of Governors have decided to build and sell condos on UBC land. This is the guy who should be investigated further, since he is the most secretive.
Arun K Garg:
Bio and Education
Born in 1946 in Agra, and after receiving an M.Sc. in Chemistry, Garg moved to Saskatchewan and received a Ph.D. in Biochemistry in 1970. He moved west for post-doctoral work at Royal Columbian Hospital in New Westminster, but shortly entered UBC Medical School, graduating in 1977. Then he interned at St. Paul's Hospital, later becoming a resident in Clinical Pathology. He received his F.R.C.P. in 1980, and that year he also became a fellow of the American College of Pathologists.
Commercial and Professional Interests
He is a partner in the medical practice of Dr. C. J. Coady Associates, a Director at BC Biomedical Laboratories for Endocrine and Metabolic Laboratory Services, and a Clinical Professor of Pathology at UBC. He was Medical Director of Laboratory Services for the Simon Fraser Health Region, and is continuing in this role with the new Fraser Health Authority.
Medical and Political Interests
Arun is active in a number of professional organizations. As a member of the BCMA Board of Directors from 1981 to 1995, he served as Chair (1986-89) and President (1993-94). He has been Co-Chair of the Guidelines and Protocols Advisory Committee of the Medical Services Commission, and the Chair of the BCMA's Council of Health Economics and Policy (CHEP). Arun chaired the committee for the BCMA's position paper for presentation to the Provincial Government on the Future of Medicare, "Turning the Tide."
He was also a member of the Canadian Medical Association Board of Directors from 1988-93, and is currently chair of the CMA's Council on Health Policy and Economics (CHEP). In this capacity, he chaired the Task Force to prepare a presentation for CMA to give to Roy Romanow's Committee on Health Care Reform.
He served a term as President of the Westminster Medical Association in 1982. He founded the Section of Clinical Pathology for the Canadian Association of Pathologists and was Chair from 1980-84. Arun was a member of the Board of Directors of the BC Institute of Technology from 1992-99 and was Chair from 1995-99. He was a founding member of the Canadian Physicians with Interest in South Asia (PISA), and is currently a member of the Board of Directors of the Laurier Institute, a non-partisan "think tank" devoted to cultural diversity and public policy.
In 2002 the UBC Class of 1977 honored Arun at its Medical Alumni first silver anniversary in recognition of his outstanding service and distinguished achievements.
Commentary:
As a doctor, Garg has ties to the BC Biomedical Laboratories, and makes his income in the Endocrine and Metabolic Laboratory Services area. He also has ties to the Simon Fraser Health Region and the new Fraser Health Authority. He is a certified pathologist.
His ties to the BCMA indicate that he is probably against legalization of illegal drugs, most likely to prevent conflict of interest with government. He also may be part of the policy that kicks out doctors who sign the marijuana certificates in BC. This means that he may be establishmentarian.
Garg's ties to the Laurier Institute is a postive, since it's related to cultural diversity (multiculturalism) and public policy.
As a South Asian, Garg represents the good Hindu boy in Canadian culture. I suspect his marriage is arranged, and he is a practising Hindu.
Possible buttons that could be pushed include Indian government involvement in the AirIndia tragedy. :p
Theresa M. Arsenault, B.A., LI.B
Theresa Arsenault has been practicing business and estate planning law since 1982, joining Pushor Mitchell in 1985, becoming partner in 1986, and managing partner from 2000 to 2004.
Theresa has been very active in the community. She served as the vice chair of the Board of Governors of OUC. Theresa co-chairs the Okanagan Partnership and is a member of the UBC Okanagan President’s Community Advisory Council. She served on the Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors from 1986 to 1989, chairing the Friends of the Okanagan College group during the same period. She was a director and vice chair of the Kelowna General Hospital Foundation and has been a member of the Estate Planning Council since 1985.
Theresa is a graduate of the University of British Columbia (B.A. 1978, LI.B. 2001) and now resides in Westbank.
Commentary:
She is a BC Liberal government appointee.
Arsenault is probably of Franco-Canadian money, possibly related to HBC in BC. Her biography is also terse, and gives no background, other than her being a citizen of Westbank, which is having a big real estate and business boom due to Westbank Nation making corporate ties, possibly with Bennett. She is mainly located in Kelowna. She also has ties to the Hospital there. But her main work is in business and estate planning law, which makes her a notary.
Bonnie Bates-Gibbs, M.B.A.
Bonnie Bates Gibbs brings with her over 20 years of experience in the business community. She has worked in a variety of companies including The Toronto Star, Purolator Courier, The Toronto Stock Exchange and was the CEO of the Kelowna Chamber of Commerce for 10 years before joining UBC Okanagan in May of 2005.
Ms. Bates Gibbs' educational background includes a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Communications and Journalism (Concordia University, Montreal) and a Master's Degree in Business Administration (University of Toronto).
Ms. Bates Gibbs received the BCCE Gerry Frederick Memorial Award for 2000 Executive of the Year and was a finalist in the Career Leadership category of the 2002 YWCA Women of Distinction Awards in Kelowna. She was also the recipient of the Canadian Chamber Manager of the Year Award in 2003.
Actively involved in the community, Ms. Bates Gibbs was the 2001 President of The United Way of the Central and South
Okanagan / Similkameen and was awarded the Queen's Jubilee Medal from the United Way of Canada.
She has served as the President of the British Columbia Chamber Executives, the President of the Northwest Chamber Leaders, and Vice President of the Chamber of Commerce Executives of Canada, an organization that represents Chambers in the Pacific Northwest region of the U.S. and Canada.
Ms. Bates Gibbs is the current Associate Director of Public Affairs at UBC Okanagan.
Commentary:
She is a BC Liberal government appointee.
Gibbs is not a UBC grad. As with most Okanagan, her past is veiled in secrecy. Her biography only goes back to 2000. As an MBA, her stint at TSE indicates she is an investor. Her BA in Comm and Journalism helped her get a job at the Toronto Star, but she went back to school to get a MBA from UofT. The first degree would help her immensely in digesting a lot of information and churning out propaganda.
James Eccott, B. Com.
Mr. Eccott was formerly the CEO and President of Dia Met Minerals Ltd., a mineral exploration company which participated in the discovery, development and commencement of production of Canada's first diamond mine. He retired in 2000 when Dia Met was sold to BHP Minerals Ltd.
Mr. Eccott graduated in 1955 from UBC with a Bachelor of Commerce degree. He worked for Crown Zellerbach Canada Ltd. in Vancouver and Conklin Lumber Co. Ltd. in Kingsville, Ontario until 1971 when he formed Eccott Building Supplies Ltd., a company operating three building supply yards in the Okanagan Valley. This company was sold in 1975 to Revelstoke Companies Ltd., and Mr. Eccott became an independent lumber broker until he joined Dia Met Minerals in 1992.
Mr. Eccott has served on the Boards of Dia Met Minerals Ltd., Canadian Airlines International Ltd. and Del Roca Energy Ltd. He is presently the Chairman and Director of Northern Air Support Ltd. and Diamondex Resources Inc. and is a Director of Bearclaw Capital Corporation and Sun-Rype Products Ltd.
Mr. Eccott is very interested in the thoroughbred race horse industry, and served as Vice-Chairman of the Pacific Racing Association for several years prior to its acquisition by Woodbine Entertainment Corporation. He is also involved in cattle ranching in the Princeton area.
Commentary:
Eccott is into mining and lumber. Though his mining career ended in 2000, his BComm degree led to Crown Zellerbach employment. While in Ontario working for Conklin Lumber, he made a big of dough and started a building supply company in the Okanagan Valley in 1971. Four years later he sold his company to Revelstoke Companies (Revy). Over the next 11 years he worked as an independent lumber broker. I have no idea how he founded Dia Met, but it indicates ties to the gem industry, possibly through investment. His Canadian Airlines stint may indicate he is either a frequent flier or is involved in its financial woes. His Del Roca stint may be investment related. Northern Air Support may be related to CA -- most isolated communities in northern BC pay alot to get flown in and out of their community, or at the least to import food and supplies into their 'hood. Sun-Rype is a popular brand name which made its money marketing juice and dried fruit in grocery store chains in BC. Eccott probably represents Okanagan interests. He's probably doing BOG work out of some latent UBC pride. Or not.
Anne-Marie Fenger
Anne-Marie Fenger has 30 years of experience at UBC, primarily in the Faculty of Arts. She was an undergraduate and graduate student of Anthropology and later a staff member in the Museum of Anthropology and the Dean’s Office. For the past 18 years she has been in a senior administrative role—first as a Manager of MOA and then as an Assistant Dean of Arts.
Anne-Marie holds a Bachelor of Arts from UBC, a BC Teachers Certificate from UBC, a Master of Business Administration from Simon Fraser University and a Graduate Certificate in Executive Coaching from Royal Rhodes University. In recent years, she has been honoured with two awards at UBC: In 2003 she was the recipient of a Just Desserts Award from the Alma Mater Society and in 2005 the President's Service Award for Excellence.
Anne-Marie’s current volunteer activities include coaching and mentoring faculty and staff through UBC’s Coaching Services and the Academic Leadership Development Program (ALDP) and chairing the Advocacy Committee of the Association of Administrative and Professional Staff (AAPS).
The University has had a significant impact on Anne-Marie, her husband, two daughters, extended family and friends, most of whom have grown up in this province, many of whom have been educated at and graduated from UBC and some of whom have had the good fortune to work here.
Commentary:
Fenger has ties to the AMS, and is an employee of UBC. Her family also may have been employed by UBC. She represents the artsy-fartsy part of the BOG. She's an old Anthropology staffer. However, it's hard to see if she is part of the Anthropology junta that prevents native UBC students from studying anthropology. I think it's gonna take more investigating to find out if she has sympathies with student activism, if she was a Fenger when she graduated with a BA and was part of the Ubyssey.
Fenger's CV shows that she was on planning committee related to drinking on campus circa 2001. Yet liquor sales have increased since then, though Arts County Fair was cancelled in 2008. Overall, AMS is pro-drinking, so it is possible that Fenger is not anti-drinking. Drunk people aren't actually the problem with student activism. What is a problem is violence instigated by sober people against drunk people, especially police.
Robert Fung
Robert Fung, 42, has been active in Vancouver’s real estate development since 1990. He is the founder and President of the Salient Group (thesalientgroup.com), focused on the creation and restoration of compact, walkable and vibrant communities in urban environments.
Mr. Fung began his career as a Development Manager with Concord Pacific Developments, and was responsible for rezoning and development of the former “Expo 86” site in Vancouver. After seven years with Concord Pacific, Mr. Fung became Director of Development with the Narland Group where he was responsible for all aspects of the residential development process.
Mr. Fung founded the Salient Group in 2000 with a focus on niche urban residential and commercial projects. Salient creates value facilitating urban renewal through the renovation and adaptive re-use of heritage buildings as well as the development of strategically located in-fill properties in key urban neighborhoods. His recent projects include the restoration of the historic Flack Block adjacent to Vancouver's Victory Square, the historic Lumberman’s Building, and the former Grand and Terminus hotels on Water Street.
Mr. Fung received his degree in Anthropology from the University of Western Ontario. In his non-profit endeavours, Mr. Fung is a member of the UBC board of governors, and is also a director of Covenant House Vancouver, which provides shelter and services to homeless and at risk children and youth, and is a director of the Vancouver Economic Development Commission. He is a former board member of the BC Technology Industries Association, the Vancouver Board of Trade, and Past-Chairman of the Canadian International Dragon Boat Festival Society, the largest Dragon Boat Festival in North America. Mr. Fung was named one of the "Power 50" by Vancouver Magazine in 2007 and 2006, was a recipient of the 2005 Business in Vancouver "40 under 40" award, and was cited among the 50 most influential people in British Columbia by BC Business Magazine.
Mr. Fung lives in a restored heritage home in Vancouver with his wife Diane and their three little girls aged five and under.
Commentary:
Probably a BC Liberal appointee
Fung could be the Triad tie-in, considering that he was a Concord Pacific Developments manager, and helped develop the former Expo 86 lands into condos for yuppies. He's helped develop heritage building in Vancouver, including the Flack Block next to Victory Square, the Lumberman's Building and the former Grand and Terminus Hotels on Water Street. Fung is not a UBC grad, having graduated from UoWO in Anthropology. He's also a direct for Covenant House Vancouver, which helps out the homeless and at risk youth. Since the hotels on Water Street were converted into condos, it's possible that he isn't about to solve the homeless problem with SRO housing. My guess is, he may be the UBC land developer.
Nassif Ghoussoub
Nassif Ghoussoub obtained his Doctorat d'état in 1979 from the Université Pierre et Marie Curie in Paris, France and is

academic distinctions include the Coxeter-James Prize (1990), a UBC Killam Senior Research Fellowshiop (1992), the
Jeffrey-Williams Prize (2007), and the UBC Faculty of Science Achievement Award for outstanding service and leadership
(2007). He was elected Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada in 1993, and was awarded in 2004 a Doctorat Honoris Causa
from the Université Paris-Dauphine.
He was chair of NSERC's grant selection committee for mathematics in 1995-1996, and is currently serving on the Killam committee at the Canada Council for the Arts (2007-2010). He was vice-president of the Canadian Mathematical Society from 1994 to 1996, and editor-in-chief of the Canadian Journal of Mathematics from 1993 to 2002. He was the founding Director of the Pacific Institute for the Mathematical Sciences (PIMS) for 1996-2003, a co-founder of the MITACS Network of Centres of Excellence (Mathematics of Information Technology & Complex Systems) and a member of its Board of Directors (1998-2003). He is currently the scientific director of the Banff International Research Station (BIRS) that he founded in 2003.
Additional Biographical Information
Nassif Ghoussoub obtained his Doctorat d'état in 1979 from the Université Pierre et Marie Curie in Paris, France. His present research interests are in non-linear analysis and partial differential equations. He is currently a Professor of Mathematics, a "Distinguished University Scholar", and an elected member of the Board of Governors of the University of British Columbia for the period 2008-2011.
He was the founding Director of PIMS (The Pacific Institute for the Mathematical Sciences) for the period 1996-2003, a co-founder of the MITACS Network of Centres of Excellence (Mathematics of Information Technology & Complex Systems) and a member of its Board of Directors for the period 1998-2003. He is also the founder of BIRS (Banff International Research Station) and was Chair of its executive committee for the period 2000-2003. He is currently the BIRS scientific director.
Commentary:
Ghoussoub is a grad of the famous Universite Pierre et Marie Curie in Paris, France. He is one of UBC's math professors from overseas. His recent math prize indicates that this guy is fucking smart, when it comes to math. He works out of the Banff International Research Centre due to his ability to win prestigious prizes like the UBC Killam Senior Research Fellowship. Given his founding of MITACS, he's an IT math researcher, though much of his research has nothing to do with computers or with everyday life in general. My guess is he's on the board because they need someone to hide the money behind some really funky math.
Jacki Hoffman-Zehner, B. Com.
Ms. Zehner is a Founding Partner of Circle Financial Group, a private wealth management operation established in 2002 in New York City. Circle was created by a small group of professional women to service their money management needs, as well as their other business and philanthropic interests. Prior to joining Circle, Ms. Zehner was a Partner, Managing Director, and Advisory Directory with Goldman Sachs & Co., New York. At the time of her appointment in 1996, she was the youngest woman, and only female trader, to be made a partner of the firm. In 1999 Ms. Zehner left her role as manager of the mortgage-backed trading desk for an executive office appointment in which she assumed a broad human capital management role. Her responsibilities were focused in the areas of leadership development, diversity, performance evaluation, promotion, succession planning and recruitment. She served on multiple internal committees including the firm's partnership committee, diversity committee, compliance and control committee, and Pine Street, Goldman's Leadership Development Initiative. She left Goldman in 2002 as an Advisory Director after successfully launching the firms ASCEND Initiative, a Leadership Exchange targeting their top women clients.
Ms. Zehner currently serves on the Board of Governors of the University of British Columbia and has previously served on other not-for-profit boards including the National Council for Research on Women, Auburn Media Group, The Forum for Women Entrepreneurs (B.C.), and Future Possibilities. In 2006 she co-founded two companies, ZMS Music Inc., a music production company based in Kelowna, British Columbia, and Paint Horse Productions, a film development company based in Connecticut. She is an active angel investor and a member of Golden Seeds, an angel investing group based in New York City and Connecticut. Ms. Zehner speaks regularly on the topics of women's leadership in the corporate arena, the economic empowerment of women, and successful career planning.
Commentary:
I don't understand how a NYC native was brought to UBC to be a member of the BOG. But I doubt she's part of the Jewish conspiracy. Most likely she's part of the Kelowna secret cabal along with Bennett. Given her association with Goldman Sachs, she is primarily an investor of some sort who retired to Kelowna to raise horses and invest in making more money and helping women to share the profits. Maybe she might be sympathetic to the women's causes on campus, as long as she profits from it.
Andrew D. Irvine, B.A. (Hon.), M.A., Ph.D.
Andrew Irvine is Professor in the Department of Philosophy at UBC. A graduate of the University of Saskatchewan, the University of Western Ontario and the University of Sydney, he has either held academic posts or been a visiting scholar at the University of Toronto, Simon Fraser University, the University of Pittsburgh and Stanford University. He has been a professor at UBC since 1989.
Active in both local and national community organizations, Dr Irvine serves on several academic advisory boards and on the boards of directors of several charitable organizations. He is also a founding member of the Editorial Board of the on-line reference work, The Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy and is both a Killam Fellow and a Commonwealth Scholar.
In 2000, Andrew was included on the Vancouver Sun's list of "British Columbia's Top 50 Living Public Intellectuals."
Commentary:
Irvine is a thinker, and supposedly smart. He also is a prof at UBC. almost 20 years of dedication to helping philosophy students learn and apply critical thinking. Quite possibly he has thought of the reason why students are considered transient at UBC. IMHO Irvine would be the man to ask why UBC BOG members think "the students as nigger"?
Barry Lapointe
Barry Lapointe was born and raised in Vancouver, B.C. He completed the Aeronautical Engineers (AME) course at the British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT), graduating with honours in 1966. As class president he demonstrated an early ability to lead and a desire to develop his management skills. After the completion of his Commercial Pilots license in 1967, he worked his way up from small air charter companies to become Chief Engineer at Air West Airlines in 1968, which later became Air BC.
Following his dream of operating his own company, Barry moved to Kelowna, B.C. in 1970 and started Kelowna Flightcraft Ltd. (KFL) with himself as the sole employee working out of the back of a truck. Kelowna Flightcraft Ltd. is now a worldwide recognized major aircraft repair and overhaul facility with 850 employees, operating out of major bases in Kelowna, B.C., Hamilton, ON. and 14 satellite bases across Canada including Allied Wings, his latest venture in Portage la Prairie, MB.
In 1977 KFL started one of the first dedicated air courier services across Canada and now owns the largest fleet of aircraft operating in the Canadian Air Freight market. Barry has a keen interest in Canadian Air Transportation and is a board member for Purolator Courier, Partnerships BC, Air Transportation Association of Canada (ATAC) and in the past for St.Paul's Hospital in Vancouver.
He has a lifelong interest in flying and currently holds an M.O.T. Airline Transport Rated pilots license with over 12,000 hours of flying. He also holds an M.O.T. Aircraft Maintenance Engineer's license and is highly respected for his skills as a pilot, maintenance engineer and entrepreneur. In recognition of his outstanding achievements in the field of Aerospace Engineering, Barry has been awarded an Honorary Doctorate degree from the British Columbia Institute of Technology, Entrepreneur of the year Pacific Region in 1998 and most recently was inducted into the AME Hall Of Fame.
Commentary:
IMHO Lapointe is the man if you want to get a package from Kelowna to Vancouver overnight. Though I think Purolator inspects packages sent through them. He is not a grad of UBC, being a BCIT grad in the AME course in 1966. He is a pilot and could probably pilot an AirBC Bombadier. But as UBC's flyboy BOG member, I dunno why he got appointed but it could have to do with the Kelowna secret cabala. It's uncertain if he's been pegged as the pilot of AirUBC's private jet but if this guy doesn't own one, then he could ask Frank Guistra where to get a good deal on an executive jet.
Bill Levine
Founding shareholder and currently Chair of Western Corporate Enterprises Inc., a company that invests in private businesses and real estate. From 1970 to 1986 Mr. Levine was a senior officer and director of BCE Development Corporation, formerly known as Daon Development Corporation. Mr Levine has been a director of several public corporations and is presently on the board of A & W Food Services Inc.
Mr Levine has been involved at UBC for many years, first as a member of the Dean's Advisory Committee, Sauder School and more recently as Chair of Dean's Advisory Board, Faculty of Arts.
Mr Levine has been Chair, BC Chapter, Young Presidents' Organization. He has chaired the Jewish Community Foundation of Greater Vancouver.
Commentary:
The mysterious Levine is so mysterious he hasn't given the BOG staff a picture of himself. His connection with A&W Food Services may explain why the A&W joint in the SUB is open late, as well as the growing obesity problem on campus. It's unknown if Levine graduated from UBC but he spends a lot of time with the Dean. Though I suspect he's part of the local Vancouver financial scene in some capacity especially with his WCE and BCR Development connections. IMHO he's probably a neo-con appointee by the BC Liberals, and definitely establishmentarian. His lack of a photo shows a tie to the Kelowna secret cabal.
H.B. McCullough, B.A. (Hon.), M.T.S., B.Litt., Ph.D.
Barrie McCullough is Associate Professor in political science at UBC Okanagan, with degrees from the University of Alberta, Harvard University, Oxford University, and the London School of Economics.
Prior to teaching at UBCO he taught at the University of Alberta, the University of Calgary, and Okanagan University College. His areas of specialization include political philosophy and Canadian constitutional studies. Journals in which he has published papers include International and Comparative Law Quarterly, Australian Journal of Political Science, Skepsis, Pepperdine Law Review, and the ILSA Journal of International and Comparative Law.
His edited book Political Ideologies and Political Philosophies draws on contributions from political ideologues and philosophers from the seventeenth century to the present.
In addition to serving on many committees internal at Okanagan University College and the Interim Academic Governing Body of UBC Okanagan, he has served on the board of directors of charity organizations and neighbourhood associations.
Commentary:
McCullough is a Kelowna secret cabala member. He represents East Coast and mainly UK interests. He's the political science prof for the Okanagan. No doubt he's a Liberal appointee. He'd be more likely to question our role in Darfur than UBC BOG's role in the UBC 19 incident, especially the policy of calling cops before talking to event co-ordinators.
Janet Pau
Janet Pau was appointed Vice President and Treasurer of Canfor in May 1995. She also held the position of Treasurer and Officer of Howe Sound Pulp and Paper Limited, a joint venture of Canfor Corporation and Oji Paper Company of Japan, from December 1989.
Ms. Pau was born and raised in Hong Kong, moving to Canada to attend York University, where she received a Bachelor of Arts in Economics. Ms. Pau is also a Chartered Financial Analyst. After spending four years at the Bank of Nova Scotia as an Assistant Portfolio Manager and Money Market Dealer, Ms. Pau moved to Canfor in 1983 to assume a role in the company's Corporate Finance Department. Ms. Pau is now retired from Canfor Corporation, and is currently serving on boards as corporate director.
Commentary:
Janet is probably a local Vanxouver member of the Kelowna secret cabal, considering she's is the second person without a profile picture. She's a pulp and paper beancounter though. She has banking experience, mainly telling investors which money market fund was good. Most likely she moonlights as treasurer for the BOG and works with Ghoussoub. I would not doubt that she is friends with Fung. Most definitely there may be triad ties here and lots of money laundering involving Bennetts control of profits from the residential income. As well, she may have helped bring in condo owners and apartment
dwellers who don't go to UBC.
Ross S. Smith
Ross Smith qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 1962 and was elected a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of British Columbia in 1990. As a chartered accountant with extensive experience in accounting and consulting, Mr. Smith has served major public and private companies from an audit and securities perspective. He had a successful 35 year career at KPMG LLP where he held various roles, including Managing Partner for British Columbia for 14 years prior to his retirement in 1998. Mr. Smith is a member of the Boards of Directors of HSBC Bank Canada and Rotherham Holdings Ltd. He is also a member of the Advisory Boards of Marsh Canada Limited and Kal Tire Ltd. and is Chairman of the Board of Trustees for K-Bro Linen Income Fund.
Mr Smith is Chairman of the St. Christopher's School Society and Chairman of Quest University Canada Foundation and has served on many charitable and community boards in past years.
Commentary:
Another money man, Smith's extensive accountant experience goes good with Pau's banking and treasurer experience. He is also associated with the new Chancellor due to his Board of Directors stint with HSBC. He also appears to be Anglican.
Susan Yurkovich
Susan Yurkovich was appointed Senior Vice-President, Corporate Affairs of BC Hydro on June 1, 2006. Prior to joining BC Hydro, she spent nearly 10 years as Vice-President, Corporate Affairs for Canfor Corporation, one of Canada’s largest integrated forest products company.
Ms. Yurkovich joined Canfor after spending several years in Ottawa working as an advisor to the Federal Minister of Indian Affairs and Northern Development and the Minister of National Defense.
Born and raised in British Columbia, Ms. Yurkovich holds both a Bachelor of Arts and Masters of Business Administration from the University of British Columbia and a Diploma in International Business from Erasmus University, Netherlands.
She is currently a Director of the Vancouver Coastal Health Authority and the VGH/UBC Hospital Foundation and has served as a Director of the Vancouver Board of Trade, the General Insurance Ombudservice and the Greater Vancouver Salvation Army Advisory Board.
Commentary:
Yurkovich is a UBC grad, and may have ties with Pau considering she worked for Canfor as Pau has. She's also experienced Ottawa's political climate advising the Indian Affairs and Northern Development Minister about how to exploit natives and natural resources in the north, as well as advising the Minister of National Defense on how best to secure Canada and keep it safe from commies, leftists and student revolutionaries. She is definitely a BC Liberals appointee. It is unknown if she was involved in the Terasen scandal, but anyone who is associated with BC Hydro's corporate empire is sure not to be a good prospect for recognizing student activists as loyal Canadians. Though, selling off parts of BC Hydro is not exactly the work of loyal Canadians, but of Americans exploting NAFTA agreements. Definitely she is establishmentarian.
