For my listening pleasure, I use Rhythmbox, an audio player which was inspired by Apple's iTunes.

It is free software which was designed to to work under GNOME Desktop

The features which drew me to it include music playback, music importing, audio CD burning, album cover display, and DAAP sharing.

Extra features include context menu integration in Nautilus file manager -- When the mouse pointer "hovers" over the music file, it plays back. This feature is known as "hover mode" playback.

The Music Applet provides Rhythmbox playback controls from within the panel.
