It's been four months since starting mirtazapine, and I'm taking 30 mg a day.
Indeed mirtazapine is great for helping me sleep, yet one unexpected side effect is pain relief.
Yes, mirtazapine and mild exercise appears to reduce pain (headache and toothache). While I do not know the reason for the pain relief, it may be due to self-hypnosis - mirtazapine being a hypnotic - and improved metabolism of cortisol due to exercise.
Sedation is the usual effect of a hypnotic, and this drug isn't any different in that respect. However, being used to the sedative effects of mirtazapine, its hypnotic effect has help put to work the cognitive behavioral therapy that my therapist is patiently teaching me.
Also, this drug has helped me to learn from my mistakes.
Although it is possible I can easily learn from those mistakes on my own without medication, mirtazapine provides the calmness and reduced anxiety needed to function more fully both at home and in public.
IMHO each and every challenge while on mirtazapine makes it a "wonder drug" for me.
