Armenia today consists of the Persian-Armenian "faction". Thanks to the collapse of the Soviet Union, they fought the Azerbaijani over a region of Azerbaijan that contains a lot of Armenians, who were being targeted by Azerbaijani extremists, and "liberated" it for the good of Armenians there. This conflict was due to both sides declaring themselves republics in a frenzy of nationalism that spread throughout the Soviet Union in the late 1980s.
It makes me wonder if the Armenians of Nagorno-Karabakh thought out what would happen in their bid for independence in 1988. The resulting war lasted for 4 years and led to massive killings on both sides - which leads me to suspect both sides, being suppressed by Moscow during the Soviet years, got a little giddy with the prospect of freedom and decided on scorched earth policies against each other due to each side as their fervent nationalism led to war.
Perhaps Armenians and Azeri were in conflict because the Armenians have been there since 1500 BCE and the Azeri only since 1064 CE when the Seljuk Turks moved into Asia Minor. From the Armenians' point of view, perhaps they were just keeping the invaders at bay as they have been doing since 1064 CE.
Today the Armenians outside of Armenia proper are fighting to preserve their traditions, but on both sides there were a lot of raids for booty before and after the collapse of the Ottoman Empire. Obviously, the Azeri versus Armenia enmity could not be ended overnight because neither side is willing to forgive and forget without UN intervention.
However, it is the Persian-Armenians who form the majority in Armenia. Almost everywhere else, it is the Greco-Armenians who originally lived in Cilicia since the days of the Parthian Empire circa 300s BCE. Cilicia was later resettled by Greco-Armenians around 1090 CE due to the Seljuk Turk incursion into Anatolia. It is they who form the majority of the Armenian diaspora outside of Asia Minor. Half of Cilicia was conquered by the Seljuks between 1064 and 1090s.
A few members of the Armenian diaspora are so well-learned that in order to convey the full meaning of deeply emotional and/or intellectual concepts, they will switch from Armenian to French, Greek or Persian and back again.
Additionally, the Armenians never formed an empire of their own, due to the rugged mountainous region in which they dwelled in what became eastern Turkey today. It was easier to make alliances with whoever subjugated them in the past, be it Sassanid Persians making incursions into Byzantium and Parthian Greeks ruling under satrapies prior to 190 BCE, along with Turks since 1000 CE.
Nationalism is a new phenomenon for both Azeri and Armenians, and is not a peaceful struggle for people who originally based their allegiance on the clan / tribal system.
There may be struggles in the future, thanks to the rise of jihadi cultism and the horrible violence it can cause in the world today. If it takes hold in Azeribaijan, then it could lead to a renewal of conflict between both nations.
At the moment, though, the uneasy peace in the region has left the West to consider more pressing matters elsewhere.

Dear Beijing, We The West Do Not Want War, Just Your Tourist Dollars (satire)
There is growing evidence that at some point in the not-so-distant future, Beijing will own a significant amount of shares in corporations which currently are considered Western business entities.
A few of the West's elites have been groomed by gifts given to them when they visit China in exchange for favouring Chinese businessmen from Beijing whose associates in Hong Kong, Macau, Shanghai and other major cities both in China and overseas (especially in the Middle East, the UK, and US as well as Africa and both North and South America).
There is also suspicion that during the Gaddafi era, Libya had purchased munitions which originated in China, including chemical weapons which fell into the hands of al Qaeda during the on-going proxy war in Syria.
Complicit in this global reach by China are mass media outlets such as CNN, FOX, NBC and various media empires owned by Conrad Black and Rupert Murdock whose company stock is owned by Chinese interests, both businessmen and various fronts owned by the Chinese army.
Today it makes perfect business sense for China to compete with America and the EU for a greater share of the world's wealth.
Also, there are government loans China has made to America which could have been jeopardized when President Obama prorogued Congress because the GOP vowed never to let ObamaCare become funded after it was enacted.
Had Beijing panicked, it could have called in multi-billion dollar loans that help keep the US economy afloat in today's stock market.
However, mainstream media outlets have been subtly promoting the booming Chinese economy, an economy that involves what the West would call "slave labour".
In villages all across that nation, there are volunteers who manufacture clothing, plush toys and related material made of textiles for the good of China, some of whom are in prisons.
As well, the average wage of Chinese employees who work for Foxconn, maker of iPhones, is under $1000 / month. Most of them work more than 40 hours a week with overtime exposing many of them in excess of 80 hours.
Given that the typical worker may work more than 63 hours a week at over 9 hours a day. In contrast, workers may spent less than 15 hours resting and at leisure. In fact, it is likely that workers spend up to 16 hours working in a given day with 8 hours devoted mainly to eating and sleep.
Such work conditions are deplorable since it has contributed to work-related stress.
One of the side effects of such stress as the recent clash between Chinese Han workers and Chinese minorities mainly from Western China (XInjiang), where a mix of Muslim Hui who were moved there from south-eastern China near the border with Vietnam to counter the influence of non-Sinitic Turkish people (Uighurs) in Xinjiang.
As part of their propaganda, Beijing has claimed that Uighurs are terrorists, when historically they have been freedom fighters dedicated from freeing their Turkic homeland from foreign invaders (the Hui and Han people moved there) after the Soviet era was established and the end of the Great War in 1918.
Such movements of Sinitic people is done to reduce the population density of the region China has conquered including regions such as Xinjiang and Tibet. Historically, Beijing had directed Chinese Hui warlords under its control to conquer the Uighurs due to fear of invasion by Russia along the western border. In response the Uighur warlords aligned with Moscow.
As a result, the Soviet Union fought a proxy war with China with American and British interests supplying munitions to both sides. Much of the German munitions captured by both the UK and the US flowed through the Chinese conduit consisting of volunteers from Shanghai who supported the Allied Nations predominated by the UK and the US with support by Japan, who provided for passage to the trenches in Normandy.
Returning to the Chinese invasion scenario described in this article, I submit the hypothesis that it will mainly an economic one. Eventually in time, so much of the West will be owned by China that the West will openly encourage mass media outlets to spread the propaganda that the East and West will soon become one.
Eventually this will lead to the positive result of increased space travel because both the Eastern hegemony and the Western hegemony of socio-economic progress will influence Big Business and their corporate monoliths to not only invest in China but also allow up to 49% ownership of Western companies.
As well, the resulting economic growth will allow corporate interests to develop space travel aligned along a mix of corporate and government agreements to bring capitalism to the stars, both aligned to the Chinese state capitalist model as well as the Western free-market capitalist model.
Therefore I would like to deny the scenario given in the blog article presented with my opinions on this matter as presented to you.
This scenario sounds distinctly anti-Chinese and indicates a neo-conservative tendency for hyperbole which is out of proportion to the current situation both in the West and in China.
In response to counterarguments that I am pro-Chinese, I also deny that Beijing supports my opinion. Indeed, if they do not already known that I endorse caution about the tendency towards Chinese domination of the West in both the economic and political sphere.
For world domination of the idea that China rules the world is as vile as the idea that America, the EU or even Canada rules the world.
How can there be freedom if China were to not only export its manufactured goods to the West without the West imposing tariffs to protect their respective markets, but also to "export" its people?
Perhaps Beijing might be doing this by supporting Chinese tours in the West. However, it is likely that only the Chinese elites and their supporters among the upper middle class could afford such a move, provided that they retain the Chinese culture.
Yet this same culture also implies a sort of entitlement, which on the long run may explain the prevalence of narcissism in Chinese in spite of their emphasis on teamwork over individual work.
Holding onto cultural traditions which risk the emphasis on self esteem may be disturbing the character of the Chinese people to the point where the narcissistic personality arises, as long as the world revolves around them. For there is a hint of egocentricity occulted by the emphasis on teamwork.
All aspirations of world domination by China externalizes the character disturbances of the Chinese that narcissism brings out in people.
Likewise, any aspiration of world domination by the West is a reflection of the disturbed character that a narcissist truly is.
Having stated this point, I would consider the scenario in the accompanying article as being far-fetched because it retains a hint of Cold War politics in its rhetoric.
In conclusion, the points I have made in this article make assumptions about the economic, psychological, and social aspects of both the East and the West. While the first two aspects are mentioned, and explored in some detail, the social aspects are briefly mentioned.
I am of the opinion that the Chinese would not invade the West as an army when it is better to let the Chinese tourists come visit us. Additionally, it is better to let the Chinese businessmen come trade with us than to plan war with the West in the classic context.
So my response to China is: "We do not want war; we only want your tourist dollars!"

All You Need is Love, Russia! (satire)
Originally the Bolsheviks were supported by Great Britain until the atrocities Stalin did woke them up to the crypto-facist violence underlying the Communist facade of the Soviet Union.
Because of the dictatorship of the Communist state in Russia, one cannot call this a truly Communist nation, but rather a legitimate criminal enterprise organized along political lines in order to gain international prestige which stole from the rich and poor without discretion, and shared it only with their cronies.
What Russia was at that time was a State-controlled capitalism based on Communist ideals. Yet it was greatly supported by its fellow member states in the UN due to the short-sightedness caused by adhering to Communist ideology rather than treating its people with respect.
At the root of the Soviet era was the centuries of Orthodox Church domination through the Czar who reign was legitimized by support of and by the Church.
Indeed, the Orthodoxy also legitimizes Putin's and all leaders of the Commonwealth of Independent States since the Soviet Union fell.
As well, Russia has been influenced by talks between the Orthodoxy, Bavaria's Christian Democrats and possibly America's New Apostolic Reformation with regard to their anti-homosexual law.
It seems that the oligarchs of Russia run their corrupt government with the same brand of autocracy as in their former Soviet days, with the military acting like the largest mafiya in the world, unwilling to share power with its minorities and willing to reframe the notion of freedom fighters as terrorists, despite the fact that in the Commonwealth of Independent States, your freedom is compromised by corruption and the Church.
As well, there is no distinction between Russia mafiya and the military since they are essential cogs in the Russia political machinery.
Apart from the politics and the religion, Russians are friendly and wonderful people.
That they are so willing to remain complacent due to the autocratic nature of their government makes Russians especially hardy under adversity.
Sadly though, because the Orthodoxy still influences the government, Russia will remain a corrupt State because autocracies like it depend on the complacency of its people in order to better exercise absolute power.
What is the point of the Russian people revolting when their disaffected youth can enjoy the decadent freedom of being Neo-Nazis and act as the youth arm of oppression against immigrants and homosexuals with criticism by the Church falling on deaf ears?
What kind of criticism might the Russian Orthodox Church declare? "Stop abusing your Nana! Instead displace your anger that was kindled as a spoiled child by your mother on the homosexuals, for they are lowering the morals of Mother Russia."
What good is a revolution now when the aftermath of the original revolution trampled over the rights and freedoms of intellectuals?
It is much better to remain complacent and be ever compliant to the demands of the State in Russia, lest a would-be oligarch hire the Russian mafiya, or better yet influence a certain Russian general, to correct your "conduct unbecoming a citizen of Russia."
People of Russia, I love you more than I love your government. Please steal the unconditional love your Orthodox Church has shared with you and other minor religions of your Commonwealth and sell your love to today's new Moors: The Chechens! For the true threat to you are the Neo-Nazis!
I'll tell you a little secret about Russian history: Russia is a nation of immigrants, for Slavs have been dominated by Vikings, Greeks, Huns, Goths, Mongols, and the Ottomans. Now only Turkey remains, its immigrants scaring your Nana as much as a Chechen martyr might by bombing a theatre in Moscow..
Yet I ask you to embrace the immigrants out of unconditional love, because your love for Putin and his alliance with the Neo-Nazis will come to no good. His recent anti-homosexual law only shows how closely tied Putin is to the Church. For he is only currying favor with Russian Christendom in order to control the Russian people through threats and intimidation if you are immigrant or homosexual.
God forbid you are both!
For all you need is love, just like John wrote.

XInjiang: Uyghur People Then and Now
The legacy of the Ming is found in the 100-word Eulogy praising Muhammad.
It is precisely because PRC is atheistic to the point of being antagonistic to Christianity, Judaism and Islam when their adherents operate outside the control of the CCP that leads to Beijing using Hui people to fight with Uyghur people, mainly by misleading both sides.
This has a lot to do with the Soviet Union's support of Uighur militants when they tried to interfere with Communist China after Mao split with Moscow over Chinese Communist policies during the Cold War era.
When the First East Turkestan Republic tried to gain Uighur independence in 1933, Ma's forces massacred many Uighurs, and overran the British embassy.
As well, corrupt Chinese warlords such as Jin Shuren frustrated the Uighurs by favoring the Chinese people in Xinjiang over Uighurs. In response to threats by the Uighurs, the White Russian garrison under Shuren's command revolted due to their treatment when faced with the Uighur rebel forces.
In response, Shuren fled to Moscow, leaving Sheng Shicai to rise to power in Xinjiang.
Prior to the First East Turkestan Republic, Xinjiang was a defacto Soviet Satellite state run by the Urumqi consul of the Soviet Union. In effect, the Soviet embassy ran the state with warlord Shicai in charge, provided that he consult with them on internal matters.
Four years after the East Turkestan Republic fell (1937) Shicai purged Xinjiang of forces hostile to Soviet interests to coincide with Stalin's Great Purge. This was referred as the Xinjiang War.
During the latter part of the 1930s, Xinjiang was nominally part of China but was actually part of the Soviet.
By Shicai designating Turkic Muslims into ethnicities, it may have been a Soviet attempt to create disunion among the Turkic people of Xinjiang. The use of the term "Uighur people" was objected to by Turkic Uighur leaders Mohammad Amin Burgha and Masud Sabri, with Burgha concerned about Turkic ethnicities designation and Sabri concerned about Shicai designating Turkic people as "Uighur people".
1942 marked the beginning of the end of warlord Sicai's rule in Xinjiang when he purged Urumqi of the Soviets and even had Mao's brother Mao Zemin killed. Now currying favor with the KMT (Nationalists), he may have felt frustrated by the slow response of KMT troop movement into XInjiang and erred by changing sides again in support of the Soviets when their war efforts turned the tide against the Germans in 1944.
By this time, Stalin refused to support Sicai's request for their aid and sent Sicai's request to the KMT, which led to him losing governship of Xinjiang shortly afterwards.
Both Burgha and Sabri are pan-Turkic rebels wishing to establish Western Chinese provinces such as Xinjiang as part of the East Turkestan Republic. Today PRC would rather Western China be a part of China, despite the practice of unpaid forced labor still being practised there.
Even though Western China is a vital part of China today, it is at the expense of the Turkic people there, most of whom are poor due to Beijing favoring the Han people over non-Han.
Unpaid forced labor is a means used by corrupt CCP officials to profit from "free labor", rather than providing promised monthly wages to girls seduced by the false employment scheme.
In the aftermath of a false employment scheme, PRC continually oppressed Turkic parents whose girls had "defected" back to Urumqi by forced unpaid labor in an irrigation project, once again showing that CCP officials there are illegally profiting from "free labor."
