Hold the Psychiatric Professional Accountable (RANT)

There is no such thing as a bad drug regarding antidepressants . There are just psychiatrists who are bad at seeing akathisia for what it is. It is always their mistake to UP the dose, because they see "anxiety" and "mania".

Throwing more prozac at akathisia is the leading cause of suicide & murders, not prozac.

Stop blaming the drug; hold the psychiatric profession responsible!

Do not up the dose if you feel anxious, hyper or manic even when directed. Instead, get a second opinion by a doctor who doesn't have socials with the first.

Bipolar Disorder as Metaphor: It's not Just Venus vs Mars

Bipolar disorder is a metaphorical fight between Mars (sexuality, libido, nymphomania) and Venus (fertility, motherhood, feminine wisdom). Antidepressants put the disorder into remission by sedating Mars. Personally, I prefer seducing my inner Venus, but feminists would object.

Depression is represented by Saturn, the metaphor of limitation of control and power. Neptune represents inspirational and intuitive energy, and with respect to mental health, may signify hypomania.

The Sun may represent egocentricity, and ego-related disorders.

Moon represents the mind and emotions, but is also representative of the Oedipus complex.

Mercury represents the intellect and reason. This may be unaffected by the other planets. However, the egocentricity of the Sun has a strong influence on Mercury, with possible defects in intellect affecting rational thought.

Jupiter may indicate the religious affect of mental illness, which may be due to bipolar disorder.

RHODOLIA, NATURE'S ANTIDEPRESSANT AND ANXIOLYTIC

Rhodolia rosea is a health food product that I got introduced to by Googling, and reading everything about it online.

In my case, I've been using the product for the past six month at least. Always when I use it, and am suffering from the deleterious effects of insomnia (anxiety, depression, fatigue), my depression lifts and the attended anxiety vanishes.

Like a charm, it works! No fatigue, no blues!

It's gotta be a miracle plant. In combination with Allergy MD which has periwinkle extract, I feel on top of the world, with my memory intact, also.

Vinpocetine is the magic ingredient in the latter product, and is related to tryptophan and serotonin, in that it is nootropic and helps one's memory, which is good for learning.

So with both products taken, my anxiety level is low, and my depression is manageable.

Indeed, the Rhodiola force 100 beats antidepressants and tranquilizers! All for less than $20 for 30 vcaps.

Plus, I have had no side effects from taking this product at twice the dosage.

The Long Search for an OTC Anti-Depressant

Reference: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chlorphenamine

According to the literature, diphenhydramine is the precursor to Prozac. This product is known as Benadryl. It is a first generation antihistamine, usually administered for allergic conditions such as hay fever, hives and the like.

However, cetirizine (Reactine) and loratadine (Claritin) have less effect on serotonin receptors, being second-generation antihistamines. They still relieve allergic conditions, but with almost no effect unlike Benadryl.

But chlorpheniramine (Chlor-Tripalon) appears to have a similar effect to diphenhydramine, with a faster onset of sedation and reduction of allergic reaction. Indeed, 12 mg of chlorpheniramine has the same effect as 75 mg of diphenhydramine. This suggests that the lower dose form of 4 mg is equivalent to 25 mg of diphenhydramine.

When mixed with high caffeine energy drinks, a near-giddy feeling occurs within the first ten minutes, followed by about 10-12 hours of a comfortable feeling without the mental fogginess that diphenhydramine sometimes brings.

Accompanying chlorpheniramine's effects is the ability to make conversation with strangers without feelings of intruding on another person's private space. The sedation of the product makes it superb in situations where high stress could induce hyperexciteability.

According to the literature, chlorpheniramine is sometimes used to calm patients as a nearly non-addictive alternative to the benzodiazepines.

This product, like diphenhydramine, could become the first OTC anti-depressant. The only side effects are rebound allergic symptoms due to suppression.

*** The observations noted in this entry is not an endorsement of drug abuse. The author takes no responsibility for the actions of other people reading should they decide to try any drug mentioned in it. Thouugh, the author does endorse a "less-is-more" attitude towards drugs i.e. use only enough to give a slight reaction to ingestion but do not combine with other drugs.

The Cheapest Form of Anti-Depressant is Censored

If I censor my self, a bit of me withers away. My joy becomes false, and my happiness a delusion.

Such denial will only kill all joy and make happiness a fleeting memory.

In this kind of environment, selflessness seems close at hand, only to show the roughness of selfishness underneath.

Thus is censorship a dread oppression.

Masturbation is not a mortal sin, for its climax, the orgasm, is the world's cheapest anti-depressant.

The only reason for sexual censorship and other forms of oppression is to render people mad so that hospitals and pharmaceutical companies can profit from their misery.

Indeed, censorship is the indirect cause of immorality and perversions and both the cause and effect of certain forms of psychiatric disorders.

Breggin Says "The best approach to antidepressants: Don't start taking them.

It’s time to say again what I’ve been saying for too many years on end. The antidepressants aren’t antidepressants. They are more likely to make a person worse than better. More tragically, these toxic agents push may people over the brink into suicide and violence.

It’s astonishing as I approach my 70th birthday that the FDA is beginning to catch up with what I’ve been saying for decades in regard to the limits of drugging children and adults to control their emotions and behavior. It’s gratifying but also a little frustrating. No, I don’t have a biochemical imbalance, I am outraged that my profession has consistently tried to foist off self-serving mythology as science and that so many people have been damaged or killed by the effects of the false biochemical diagnoses and toxic medications.

Meanwhile, the antidepressants are very difficult to stop taking. Withdrawal from antidepressants can lead to “crashing,” with agitation, violence and suicide. Withdrawal from these noxious drugs should be done slowly with experienced clinical supervision. These drugs are not only unsafe to start—they are dangerous to stop.

The best approach to antidepressants: Don’t start taking them.

Research into anti-depressants will show that 67% of people on them will show positive improvement compared to previous medication.

However, the 33% who don't like the new meds tend to under-report suicidal ideation either during treatment or when they discontinue medication.

The bottom line is, ADs are not recommended to substitute for proper treatment of depression, which should always be cognitive behavior therapy with temporary use of medication, as needed (mainly anxiolytics and sometimes sedatives).

To prevent any suicide attempts, medication should be doled out in 3-week allotments unless the patient can demonstrate lack of suicidal ideation.

Even a layman such as myself can figure this out on his own. Why can't shrinks?
