When I was a little boy I had a nasty experience with fuel oil. This experience falls under the category of "accidental childhood poisoning."
My family was visiting friends, and I decided to check out the outside of the house. After spotting a hose attached to a big metal tank behind the house near the kitchen window, I thought, "Oh, there must be water at the other end of this hose."
To my surprise, as I sucked in less than a mouthful of fuel oil, I felt it burn my mouth — the oil probably also temporarily damaged my stomach and intestines. At least, it gave it a good cleansing from the inside out!
Within 48 hours of ingesting the fuel oil, my poo turned green for a day. The major traumatic experience was especially heightened while my mom was scolding me.
Of course, I was a stupid little boy who accidentally poisoned himself, but I survived the experience. It's great being really young, and having a body that is growing. It can shake off being poisoned by a mouthful of oil.
Do I worry about the risk of kidney and liver cancer due to exposure to a toxic petroleum product? No, I see no need to worry about cancer since the stress caused by worrying is much more dangerous on the short-term by causing forgetfulness, depression and mood changes.
Today, I don't even have nightmares about this experience which happened to me over 40 years ago.
Here is what I learned from this experience:
Never suck on a hose attached to a big tank near a house, thinking it contains water. That's not water; that's fuel oil.
A child's body can shake off a mild poisoning. However, there might be unforeseen psychological effects due to child neglect that will have to be worked out with your parents.
Even so, this is a case of accidental childhood poisoning and possible child neglect, for the reason why my family was visiting family friends was due to my father being invited to socialize over a couple bottles of beer.
Within Japanese culture, drink is important to loosen the tongue so that the drinker can relax and unwind while forming social bonds with friends. Unfortunately, most people who drink sometimes do not exercise moderation in their drinking by not setting a limit to how much they drink. At the time, my father was a social drinker and waited until he is sober before the return home.
Quite possibly, I was unsupervised by my parents and wandered off to encounter the childhood poisoning incident.
Whenever my family visited this family friend, I liked exploring their property which had a creek flowing through it, which used to have fish in it. Today, a part of the property was converted into Kiyo Park in Surrey, BC. The creek still flows through the property that became the park.
So I am thankful that I remember this experience today because childhood stupidity led to this near-poisoning.
Instead I take responsibility for that wrong action of mistaking fuel oil for water because it makes it easier to take my parents off the hook and then take myself off the hook. The incident is so old that my mind has buried it deep, having resolved it decades ago.
This incident stays in the pot of my traumatic life experiences because it is so old only I remember it. My father has passed away so he is absolved of his part in the incident, and my mother is 85 and does not need to be reminded.

Thoughts on Cancer (satire)
When I mention what I would do if I got cancer, people get scared for me.
However, I do not believe in chemotherapy because, in order to fight cancer, you are given a drug to suppress your immune system and then rely on the doctors' word that chemotherapy will kill the cancer cells.
Yes, you have to have faith that the chemo won't kill you before the cancer does, because it causes nausea, vomiting and loss of appetite.
So basically, it's a gamble. Either the chemo kills the cancer or you die of cancer. Or, you could have the cancer removed IF it is near you navel (e.g. ovarian cancer and possibly testicular cancer, both of which do not send cancer seed cells to the liver to be spread throughout the body.
However, most people with colon cancer usually die of old age before the cancer becomes a problem. I know this to be true, because my dad died before his cancer became a problem.
So, despite being at risk for prostate cancer, testicular cancer and colon cancer, and knowing that they form slowly, I am not in a rush to get tested because oncologists make money from patients' panic.
In short, chemotherapy makes them money. It's the only "cure" because the anti-cancer medication is big money.
So they subject you to "torture" and if the cell levels are low, declare a "cure", saying your cancer is in remission.
But if you ask how cancer comes about, they give the "I don't know" song and dance, when most cancers are caused by stress and physiological changes due to cortisol and its impact on the immune system.
So ideally, a calm person is likely not to get cancer while an overstressed person might get cancer. No doubt, uptight people who keep their thoughts to themselves get cancer too.
It's how the person reacts to stress that promotes the imbalance in the body's immune system leading to cancer.
This means that, had Angelina Jolie been more laidback, she probably wouldn't have needed the pre-emptive surgeries she paid for to prevent breast and ovary cancer - yes, she cut off her breasts and got a hysterectomy to prevent cancer, which is worse than chemotherapy.
However, she is still going to get cancer because she is so much on the go that her body is in stress, even when she is minding her kids.
It's not like i just decided not to opt for chemo IF I ever got cancer yesterday. I'd decided on this circa 1994.
Would I suffer more? Maybe, but chemo causes more suffering on the longrun, because you will have to take an immunosummpressant for the rest of your life.
That means, you could die from the simple flu more easily. Even mild food poisoning could kill you.
So maybe now you see why I don't believe in chemotherapy.
If my lysine supplementation leads to cancer, then so be it. I'm sure the arginine and citrulline will moderate that.
I also would tell my doctor if I ever get tested for cancer, don't share the positives with me. While I'd be happy to hear I am free of cancer, I also do not want to know that I might have it and my immune system is happily proliferating more cancer.
Once upon a time, I had my own theory about cancer being shen (the consciousness) using chi (the living energy of the universe) due to failing ching (the libido). Because ching is limited, life is limited for each person. However, chi is almost eternal and shen gets passed on to the next generation because it is also supernatural.
Indeed, shen is also the power of a god, which is why the Chinese traditionally pray to Xuan Wu and other gods, much to the ire of the evangelical Christian converts who willingly become ignorant to the wisdom of their ancestors.
However, I am a Buddhist. I am also not Chinese. So there is no cultural bias to cloud my understanding of how chi, ching and shen work. If it came down to it, then I'd consult a TCM practitioner as part of an overall qigong regimen IF I could afford it to prevent cancer. Instead, I'll stick to my supplements and hope the increased Human Growth Factor does not trigger cancer.
Though i have heard that daily vigorous exercise for more than two hours a day is a good cancer preventative. It's lack of exercise that promotes the negative effects of stress to the point of cancer. Thus, sitting on your ass 24-7 promotes cancer while getting at least 8 hours of exercise a week reduces the chance of developing cancer.
But don't take my word for it. Google cancer. You'll be glad you did.

30 Years After Fukushima Comes the Zombie Apocalypse (humor)
As long as America and Iran have this propaganda war, eventually it will not be Americans that will rule the world, or the Muslims, Nortth Korea and Syria.
Rather it will be cockroaches as they adapt to gamma irradiation.
Every human will expire not by nuclear war but from fallout from the ongoing Fukushima nuclear hell.
Additionally, when the thorium reactor becomes popular, gamma radiation will rise to the point of mutation.
Here's why: 232Thorium is irradiated by neutrons, forming 233Uranium and suddenly gamma ray emitters are produced!!!
The decay chain of 232U quickly yields strong gamma radiation emitters:
232U (α, 72 years)228Th (α, 1.9 year)224Ra (α, 3.6 day, 0.24 MeV)220Rn (α, 55 s, 0.54 MeV)216Po (α, 0.15 s)212Pb (β−, 10.64 h)212Bi (α, 61 s, 0.78 MeV)208Tl (β−, 3 m, 2.6 MeV)208Pb (stable)
from: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Uranium-233
This means gamma ray mutations.
And no, nobody turns into the Fantastic Four.
Actually it means everyone irradiated is destined to develop cancer 30 years from now.
So the starting point of this doomsday scenario is the Fukushima Earthquake.
Thirty years from now, there will be more people in their 80s than now. This means senile octogenarians with cancer will basically become the zombies of 2040.
>:)
PS Currently, the thorium reactor lobbtist wants us to use "safe" thorium.

HERV and cancer: a hypothesis
Has anyone researched the role of (human endogenous retrovirus) HERV and its role in causing cancer?
The following is hypothetical. If any of it is does not happen, then I require MEDPLUS and other database evidence to improve it.
HERV are formed from human DNA in response to immuuological challenges. Its role during pregnancy is to prevent cell death in response to aggressive attack by the mother's immune system (mainly any macrophages that make it past the placenta filter).
In response to threat, HERV even infects macrophages, which stops producing hydrogen peroxide and becomes a HERV factory. Once the HERV uses all of the DNA and RNA in the white blood cells, new NERV emerge, and the blood cell dies.
At this point, the liver detects the dead white blood cells and begins to process it. HERV virii are then released and infect liver cells.
HERV in the liver replicate when exposed to cortisol during stress. Their purpose is to infest stem cells in the liver, which then go everywhere in the body causing cancer.

HERV-W Linked to Bipolar Disorder, Multiple Sclerosis and Schizophrenia; XMRV Retrovirus & CFS
According to the following link, bipolar depression, MS and schizophrenia may be due to human endogenous retrovirus (HERV-W). A compromised immune system affects monocytes (white blood cells) which activate the HERV-W virus.
As well, the XMRV has been associated with chronic fatigue syndrome and prostate cancer.
This leads me to speculate the following, which might be validated by medical evidence:
IMHO this may explain how mirtazapine works: its anti-histamine action affects the histamine part of inflammation. Inflammation results when mast cells are broken down by scavanger white blood cells, releasing histamine. How this may trigger HERV-W and XMRV is in part an immune reaction resulting from a complex combination of factors including stress and a viral infection, specifically from the herpes family.
Another side effect of antihistamines is sedation. Thus mirtazapine's antidepressant action may most likely be due to the thorough bed rest I get with daily dosage, which reduce my stress levels.

Say NO to BBQ Dinners!
Sorry, man! I'll pass.
Nitrosamine carcinogens and the risk of stomach cancer would need a bowl full of brocolli to go with those overcooked smokies.
Also ascorbic acid (Vitamin C) reduces the formation of nitrosamines from forming.
The vegetable with lots of Vitamin C in it is red peppers.
So eat veggies with your BBQ dishes, peoples!
"About 1970 it was discovered that ascorbic acid inhibits nitrosamine formation. Consequently, the addition of 550 ppm of ascorbic acid is now required in the manufacture of cured meat in the U.S. Actually, most cured meat manufacturers add erythorbic acid (an isomer of ascorbic acid) rather than ascorbic acid. Although erythorbic acid has reduced vitamin C activity, it is as effective as ascorbic acid in inhibiting nitrosamine formation and is also cheaper than vitamin C. Another antioxidant, alpha-tocopherol (vitamin E), is added to some cured meats to inhibit nitrosamine formation. As a result of these strategies, there are now significantly lower levels of nitrosamines in fried bacon and other cured meats than there were some years ago. Ascorbic acid, erythorbic acid, and alpha-tocopherol inhibit nitrosamine formation due to their oxidation-reduction properties. For example, when ascorbic acid is oxidized to dehydroascorbic acid, nitrous anhydride, a potent nitrosating agent formed from sodium nitrite, is reduced to nitric oxide, which is not a nitrosating agent. The discovery that ascorbic acid can inhibit nitrosamine formation was serendipitous."
