The Moderation Method: The Glass is Both Half Empty and Half Full!

Even if my life didn't turn out well as my classmates who graduated in 1976, then I will still insist that I would never change what I did other than get more sleep.

I have a method to deal with life.

My method is to always bounce back from any short stumble, be it financial or what have you (depression, anxiety, upsets).

For someone to tell me such and such is for my own good without any humor is too mercenary for my tastes. You may think you are helping me, but it's like sticking a knife in me to tell me "It's for your own good."

How dare you to think you know what's good for me?

It is not rude to say "I understand", because that beats anything that self help books and the inspirational speaker can give me! ;)

I too have found nobody likes what they mistake for wavering i.e. to honestly state the truth that the glass is half empty and half full, while around you the realists cry "you cannot have both!!!"

Um... Sorry, most hard cases at the mental health clinic ooze with seeing the mirror darkly and insisting that the cup is half empty. Is it really up to me to help my brother who also suffers when he insists that he has to be honest with his feelings?

That's not honesty; that's a form of subtle violence against all the positive feelings which we bottle up until we only have negative ones to practice.

Truth is, when you're home and isolated to the point where you think being home is more "normal" than talking with someone, then you're maladapted, and no one may change your mind unless they talk as I do now.

Yes, I am mildly maladapted but I'm trying to show the positive and the negative, because balanced expression beats gazing in that dark mirror.

If this offends anyone who insists on the safety of the hearth over dealing with life outside, then I believe deep down that talking to someone hurts less than your reluctance to share with a trusted friend.

All the anxiety you have might have you to believe your delusions about other people are real. A person is only real when they can glow with positive vibes whilst explaining how they conquer the negative ones daily.

Hopefully the gentle reader is clear of mind enough to see the beauty of positive thinking in what I write.

Ride the Wave of Change

When change happens, ride the wave for all you are worth, for it will transform you.

Let go of the past and the future, and thus surrender to the passage of time.

Keep your head up, look forward and notice what you are being carried towards.

Surrender and relax because something bigger and more powerful than you is in control: time.

Transcend ego to experience life.

Turn away from vain distractions to numb yourself in the face of change. In doing so you allow yourself the full experience of life.

Sometimes our most challenging experiences will carry us to new levels of awareness and maturity over time.

With patience and perseverance, let go of the past and face the challenges of today while letting tomorrow take care of itself.

Time is waiting...

With Effort, All Things Are Possible

If you have only effort, you have all Dharmas,
But if you have only laziness you do not know any Dharmas. — Geshe Kelsang Gyatso

With effort, anything is possible. Although one may be limited by physical strength, with mindful practice the mind is capable of anything.

Last night I went out to visit Vancouver. Since my habit is to take pictures with my smartphone camera, most of my night was spent taking pictures of my trip into Vancouver and of the city itself.

First I went down to English Bay. Then I returned to Robson Street and Howe Street, near Chapters Book.

At Chapters, I looked around until I found the Rubaiyat by Omar Khayyam, which I got for a bargain: $2!

This is the fifth edition of the Rubaiyat.

Contrary to popular opinion, the Rubaiyat is not about drinking wine. What wine represents in the verses is the Divine and is akin to the Holy Spirit in Christianity.

Returning to the Buddhist quote regarding effort, "Dharmas" refers to phenomena. For the phenomena that effort brings is inspiration.

After reading the Rubaiyat, I felt inspired to write the poem preceding this article, We are All One.

As well, inspiration helped with the effort to create my newest music video to post on Youtube using pictures I took last night.

With effort, you could have anything,
Be it peace of mind or happiness.
All it takes is faith in the Buddha,
and belief that Buddha Nature is Emptiness.

Follow the Ways of Goodness

Be loving, be kind
And follow the ways of goodness.
Committed, and longing for the goal,
Always keep going with courage.
To dally and delay will not help you.
But to be ardent is sure and safe.
When you see it, cultivate the path,
So you will touch and make your own
The Deathless Way.

-Psalms of the Early Buddhists
