The Ubiquity of Google is Long-Lived (satire)

On or before June 8, 2013, Google implemented the cache.google network to improve Internet surfing from most Android phones registered to Android phone users via gmail.

This may also apply to computers that use the Googleplus portal.

I discovered this when using the os.monitor app, the google mapper in it spat out a map of the Whitehorse, Yukon location for the IP address two zero nine dot fifty two dot one eighty nine dot eighty eight & its address written as words substituting for digits 0-9 to reduce IP address traffic from crackerjack botnets.

Great job, Google! My Zte Grand X View is totally protected by your proxy server, thanks to my provider's alliance with your global network - a joint Telus-Google venture, no doubt.

Even your YouTube app is awaiting your command to stream content suggested by my viewing habits.

NB: no evil done. The paranoid sysadmin was just overly paranoid of the ubiquity of the global cache-google server farm. Its purpose is to speed up the network using local mirros of everything they cache.

If you want to tap into it, and have a knowledge of how to do so, add the Google OpenDNS enabled DNS server at 8.8.8.8. However I am not responsibility for any loss of connectivity.

YMMV

A Tale of Two LANs (satire)

It was the best of LANs, both wireless and wired, on my EPC1000HE but the speed test results were text, and not easily viewed from here. So I looked for the statistics as an image file and found them.

Here they are, simply placed with iamges and links to the statistics for both LANs.

Wireless LAN test results (asDSL WiFi):

Wireless LAN test results (access point):

LAN test results:

It appears that the wireless LAN is faster than the wired LAN, overall. You might think the download speed is a factor in determining speed but it is the ping of 22 milliseconds that indicates that WiFi is faster than a wired connexion.

Indeed, it helps too that the access point and aDSL modem/router are nearby, within 3 feet of my netbook.

My only pet peeve is Firefox makes the Adobe Flash Speedtest app by OOKLA flicker during each test.

However, this and the lofting of Chrome browser led to use of Firefox instead. Because it isn't Speedtest, I am only mentioning it to admit that this EPC1000He with 2GB RAM and an ATOM 270/280 CPU can't handle Chrome.

For advanced Linux users:

Regarding hardware, the Atheros 9280 lan/wlan PCI-E half-size card, sourced by AzureWave Technologies for Qualcom, has its 5G channel disabled in Linux. This is due to the driver, ath9k.

Here's a look at dmesg with grep looking for the string "9280":
$ dmesg|grep -i 9280
[ 13.197541] ieee80211 phy0: Atheros AR9280 Rev:2 mem=0xf8520000, irq=19

Preparing Nexus 4 for Android 5.10 Upgrade

Synopsis: to prepare your Nexus 4, first wipe cache partition and then upgrade to Android 5.10.

  • Wiping Cache Partition
    1. If your phone is on, hold the Power button to restart it.
    2. Hold the appropriate device-specific buttons until you see the word "Start" in green and a large Android robot on its back.
On the Nexus⁴: Press and hold the Volume Down, Volume Up, and Power buttons at the same time for several seconds.
    3. Press the Volume Down button twice to highlight "Recovery mode," then press Power button. The words "Google" will show on the screen followed by an image of a small Android robot on its back with a red exclamation mark and the words "No command."
    4. While holding down the Power button, press the Volume Up button. Some menu options will appear.
    5. Use the volume buttons to scroll to "wipe cache partition" and press the Power button to select it. It takes up to 10 minutes to complete the process. Problems can occur if one is impatient and attempts to reboot during this process, so it's best to just let it complete.
    6. After the cache is wiped, scroll to "reboot system now" and press the Power button again to restart the device.
  • Note: If your phone becomes unresponsive at any point during these steps, you can restart it by holding down the Power button for several seconds.

To make the above instructions more meaningful, on Youtube is this video on how to wipe the cache partition on the Google Nexus 4.

After clearing the cache, download and install the Android 5.10 OTA update.

Commentary: after wiping the cache partition, I upgraded my Nexus 4 to Android 5.1 without any issue.

Mout Phishing Expedition Foiled (email alert)

So here is the timeline for a phishing expedition fail. Please note that I did not attempt to alert the phisher "SarahV" that I was onto him. Instead, I pretended oblivious to it all.

At first glance, the culprit appeared to be from Vietnam and the Ukraine but his base of operations is mout dot gmx dot net - a German router and server farm. This farm uses IP addresses served by 1&1 Mail & Media GmbH based in Karlsruhe, Germany. It is being used as the remailer for phishing expeditions running out of the Ukraine and Vietnam.

Mout appears like a secure remailer when surfing to it via elinks, and so does mout dot web de - both full domain name addresses are aliases for six and seven ip addresses for mout dot gmx dot net and mout dot web dot de respectively.

Anyway, rather than expose the ip addresses of mout, let me present the innocent conversation that I engaged in, rather than drop the ball. Rather than click on any link, I just reported this phishing exploit to Google's security team to take care of.

When this email first appeared in my gmail inbox, I was going to ignore it but instead got curious.

How can I prove that this is the culprit? Both Gmail security and I can view the email headers, and after the remote server supposedly in Vietnam spammed me, the guy who controls the Bellcrgash account at gmx dot net offer the phishing bait of some dating site. Then he gets impatient and tries to yank my chain.

In response, I give a short refusal and no explanation - this is necessary to fool the phisher.

After the second reply from the guy using the alias "SarahV", my response was to look up everything about all the IP addresses in the email header in all his replies. The only IP addresses common to the second and third replies resolved into two servers in the mout dot gmx dot net farm.

So beware: any email from gmx dot com are known to be spammers out to phish from oblivious rubes who do not know any better.

Thank you to Gmail for providing the means to reduce phishing scams like this from being successful.

Update: The phishing never stops. Hopefully using Ukrainian, Vietnamese, and German will get this guy to move on...

I hope me just talking to him will not only lead to more of the same BS...

Dear Google, Here is a Crime Fighting Thing to Do (satire)

Google could help out criminals by getting Washington to give away each one a free Nexus 7, a $250 cash card, and $250 of cloud space on Google in exchange for remaining rehabilitated. They also will get six weeks of training in how to use the Nexus 7 in how to use Blogspot and Youtube to make a blog and to monetize it.

Any former criminal who sells their Nexus for drugs or uses the Nexus for illegal purposes is subject to a $250 fine and 1 year in jail with 3 years probation and banned from the Internet for five years.

Oh, and they don't get a new mini tablet when they get out. They get a used Nexus 4 smartphone and 6 months unlimited talk but have to pay for unlimited texting with a carrier of their choice (a $1000 value).

Basically the ex-con is given a $200 cash-card for this purpose. On this card is a chip in it that will be checked when the reformee sees his probation officer. If he sells it, then the information on the chip in the card will prevent use by another person because the pin number for it will be checked against the buyer's ID. Anyone caught selling their cards is subject to a $250 fine. A person who forgets his card's pin number will have to pay a $20 fee to get a replacement which will only have the balance remaining assigned to it.

This will prevent reformees from profiting from this "freebie".

When they get a full-time job, they have to pay back the Govt. at $20/mo for 5 year for a total of $1200. the money from this keeps the program going. Any default on this results in a year's time in jail, and rejection from future enrollment in this program.

This idea can also be used to get the intelligent people with good memories off welfare before the monotony of being on the dole leads to endless poverty i.e. for new people on welfare who are determines to make money off Blogspot and Youtube creating their own legal content.

Google, make this work for the good of America.

Don't Be Evil When Liberty is At Stake

"Do the right thing: don't be evil. Honesty and Integrity in all we do. Our business practices are beyond reproach. We make money by doing good things." — Google Core Values

Reactionary anarchism is partially motivated by negative liberty - the freedom from coercion. By participating on their side, a person's freedom to be / freedom to exercise one's potential - the epitome of positive liberty - is severely limited to attending meetings and participating in direct action.

If anyone chooses to study society by social intercourse with it, then one is suspected of being a traitor.

However, revolutionaries who exercise negative liberty using the same means of oppression as their foes (coercion through violence) whilst calling it liberty cannot be distinguished from their foes.

In order for any revolution to be enacted with the least amount of harm and succeed, the revolutionary must be committed to non-violent confrontation and constructive dialogue with free market society.

The reason why I choose "free market" rather than "bourgeois" is because the latter term was co-opted by the socialists, whose experiment with government resulted in the failed Soviet regime due to corruption of the communist elites who replaced the aristocrats and the Czarist regime.

In this context, "free market" refers to the epitome of both positive and negative liberty, which is free market capitalism. Even though there are regulations in place to control the financial market, one is still free to exercise his or her full potential to realize financial success.

Yet there will always be professional jealousy to motivate the purveyors of negative liberty to find the weaknesses of their business rivals, and who will pervert positive liberty by exercising the deep dark recesses of their potential in unexpected ways.

Thus, I find the antidote to this to be Google's maxim: don't be evil.

Caveat: note that the maxim provided still allows one to commit a lesser evil i.e. exposing Internet users who use multiple IDs to "manufacture" composite personas as part of their trolling activity, and in essence, "killing" fake people who only exist online.

Another example is when a policeman uses his taser to stop a suicidal person with a knife.

In business, the truth is often created in a way to maximize profits, usually by omitting anything that will negate the key selling points. This is why alternative health supplements rarely reach universal acceptance because all you need is one doctor to declare that medication is more effective, and mass media may use that declaration of medical opinion as statement of fact to erase support.

Well, April was a Flop in Blogger income

After a small amount of income happening last fall and winter, the spring brought me the realization that I cannot be happy and make money online as it means spending too much time indoors. My happy times are when I'm out and about.

It makes me doubt that people successful at this are sitting on their asses making money. They must have a staff or are super organized.

Also, it appears that my "spamming" of Blogspot articles to Google Plus has led to changes that makes it difficult to maintain a high output to compensate for the brevity of my articles.

I discovered yesterday that I would have to work 24/7 to maintain more than $1 a month of income.

As for Youtube posts, I would have to post no less than 5 posts a day. However, it cannot all be music videos as it takes 2-4 hours per video to create the song and transform pictures into video. It would be easier to create a vlog and discuss a topic but that demands a script.

I'd be better off trying to intentionally make money from blog and youtube posts by increasing production but not end up losing sleep — something like a 9-5 on-line existence.

I also need new material and have tried to write about topics other than Buddhism to see what the Google Plus fans want.

Thanks for your support!

OK, I just realized that twitter solves the spamming issue by turning on the feature that tweets ever G+ I make...

I love my iPhone again!

So I've gotten my iphone apped up with Google Plus and YouTube.

After looking the specification in GSMarena specs I realized it works on both Bell and Fido when factory reset.

Neither Bell nor Fido will confirm this, with each side denying compatibility.

Also, when I switched to the Swype keyboard, words written no longer get an extra space!

Good Morning Internets

Today I'd just turned on my computer, and booted up CrunchBang Linux, when I noticed it was slow.

Webpages that used to display within seconds, appeared to crawl.

Rather than Google it, I realized that Firefox was loafting. Perhaps the culprit is Java.

Guh, this is like having sex with your partner for a half hour, and nobody is coming...
home!

All you get out of it is being sore, but the soreness I'm getting is impatience.

Anyway, my rant is over. I gotta check all the windows in Firefox, in case I can see through the panes to the Internet.

Good morning, I'm back!

TYVM, Gentle Readers!!!!!!

It's been a couple months and hits to my blog have increased tremendously.

A month ago, I decided to monetize my youtube account, too.

Though the income has been modest ($1.81 for gandhara and 72 cents for youtube), you'll hear no complaints from me.

So almost daily I thank Google for their ad service.

Please don't get paranoid over the picture accompanying this blog entry, gentle readers.

Most of the statistics do not retain personal information about your choice of OS.

That cannot be done by Google. They do not have that mentality like cyber-criminals do.

I heartily endorse Google for their resistance to corruption by net-bot farms and hacking by foreign interests. Most of the information leaked was perhaps because one Windows computer was pwn'd, due to lack of security on that PC. I bet it was freshly installed too.

So thanks to the internets. You've been good to me and to Google!!!

Comments on my Blog after Hooking It Up to Google

It's amazing how many hits on my blog have increased since making my blog send posts to Google+.

As well the number of hits to my blog has increased. More importantly the money Google is paying me has increased to a total over$2.50 if you include my monetized youtube.

Though, after doing the math, it take 8 years for me to amass $100.

Sigh... If I was female with big boobs, then I would be getting cheques monthly.

Man! Letting those kids on-line really corrupted the Internet.

Thanks for Helping Me Better Access the Internet, Google!

Although I am a fan of 1930s & 1940s movies, I wouldn't want to live in those times. It really wasn't a great time because of the harshness of those times. The Depression had caused worldwide inflation. Innocent groups of people were being blamed for Germany's economic problems.

Even so, it may have been a simpler time for the people living then.

Today, my computer makes up for living in this post-modern world. Life is much more complex today than it was 70 years ago. We had our security shattered by 9-11. Subsequent wars in Afghanistan and in Iraq are now in the process of being discontinued. Small conflicts have been ongoing in many different parts of the world as well.

Locally, it's become harder to find a job. It's even harder for people to know others, as well as they know themselves.

When I walk away from the keyboard, I don't worry about what is happening in the world. What's the point of needlessly stressing myself out? Things not immediately affecting me are ignored.

When I am dead, life will carry on. Nobody but my closest friends will remember me. Though they will carry on with their lives, some of them will have benefited from knowing me. For my cares will be over forever in that future time.

As of this moment, I am happy and upbeat, because many people are counting on me to remain positive and a few of them actually need me.

This is why I appreciate having a computer. With it, I am able to share my deepest feelings with other people.

For I alone have decided so very long ago to use the Internet to motivate me, not crush my spirit.

So thanks to the internet, I've made a lot of friends and am thankful to each and every one of them.
