Let only love be one's guide,
though let the heart be
guided by reason until
no doubt blinds one's sight --
With loving eyes see it all!

With Loving Eyes (poem)
How Vile! How Perverted!
Violence in the movies is vile and perverted.
I'd rather see another ancient civilization movie where the sex scene consists of about 6 men and 6 women who fornicate before a big fat, half-naked lady shaman in order to ensure a good harvest than see Angelina Jolie kick ass.
In short, Saw 3 is more pornographic than Moll Flanders.
I hate violent movies, but any movie that makes light of sex (like When Harry Met Sally) is a ball.

Unconditional Love
Unconditional love determines who are your true friends. A person who has no concept of this will run away from you when you express such a love. Such a person is pitiful.
Another person who has a concept of this will be attracted to you. Such a person is sympathetic to you.
However, it's wise not to favour one over the other, for then your love merely becomes human.

Mad Props to Azia Kim & Elizabeth Okazaki
Please read Google on Azia Kim and Elizabeth Okazaki before reading further to get a sense of this American form of hikikomori. Also search for "hikikomori" here.
The recent departure of Azia Kim, who hung out at Stanford University for 8 months brought into focus another freeloader who had been at the university for 4 years.
Apparently Elizabeth Okazaki lived at Varian for all those years while administrators there tolerated her presence.
It seems that about four years Okazaki couldn't scam students at apartment buildings as their "property manager". So, in a sense she is homeless.
Kim's ability to lie and still fake being a student also makes her slightly off, but probably with less social isolation than experienced by Okazaki.
Both women may have had a form of hikikomori, given that neither of them actually took classes.
IMHO both women must feel it to be nice to be near intelligent people at university, given how tolerant university students are about such a thing.
To now isolate and thus stigmatize them further by creating doubts about their mental stability is to threaten their ability to integrate into society without hardship.
In a sense, the media frenzy over both women may expose both of them to future victimization, both by the State and other people.

The Democracy of the Munda
Once upon a time in Travancore, modern day south Kerala and northwest Tamil Nadu, to wear the munda (kilt) appeared modest and democratic in that both lower caste men and women showed both bare leg and breast.
Over time, it became part of the caste system.
In time it became to represent oppression of women after colonization by the British in the 1700s since a woman was barred from covering her upper body.
Then in 1859, the Channar Lahala or the Upper Cloth Revolt (Channar Mutiny) occurred after 50 years of violent struggle in the name of women's liberation for the right of women of all castes to cover their upper bodies.

Why Police Should Not Use Marijuana
Police makes call to Emergency.
The hilarious part is when the cops says he and his wife are dying, adding that "time is going by slowly."
Definitely, the paranoia is due to having no clue that one of the side effects of THC is "impaired sense of time."

In Memoriam
One by one they die,
first a friend, then another;
and now my father.
No tears fell, alas!
No tears fell, and yet again!
The desert sees dew,
but these eyes cry no more --
Ah, for they have remained dry!
Who can weep today
when yesterday I made peace
with each soul's passing?
No tears shed, 'tis true!
No tears shed, and yet again!
No rain falls gently,
and the clouds have gone away --
Oh, who shall mourn for them all?
This heart weeps dearly.
Yet, this fool has not one tear,
but many mem'ries...
first a friend, then another;
and now my father.
No tears fell, alas!

Awakening: a Poem
Awakening...
that brief moment
which comes suddenly
if false thinking stops.
One by one,
each false thought
is stopped until
the mind becomes real.
Thus transformed,
the mind is
now called
the heart-mind.
Other than
this mind, nothing
needs to be awakened
or cultivated.

Poor Diet Kills
**I am using two personal examples because I knew these people. Though I regret having to add personal details where I see fit, hopefully that gives you a more complete picture...
1. My Father
My father used to eat the most unhealthiest food, basically meat and potatoes with gravy and lots of salt and the occasional beer.
He also would respond to defiance to his authority with anger, and took delight emotionally abusing my mother.
Yet he also would have social anxiety sometimes.
Then he had a stroke in 1995 and died on May 2, 2007, age 86. He gradually faded away over 12 years.
Yet the emotional abuse continued because my mother opted for home care until he requested he be placed in a hospice.
My suspicion is that he may have been depressed all along, since men display depression differently from women.
The social anxiety and the aggression are clues that possibly diet played a role in his mental health. anger management issues are associated with depression in men.
2. My Best Friend
To add to this refutation that a poor diet does not affect a person's disposition, let me give you a brief history of my best friend.
My best friend passed away May 27, 2006, age 52, from pancreatic cancer. He'd been diagnosed circa 2004.
A recovered alcoholic, he'd stopped drinking circa 1991.
Between 1996 and 2004, I can recall that he had a sweet tooth and smoked alot, but had cut down A LOT since his heart attack in 2004.
The meals he ate contained meat and potatoes, and he explained that well-cooked vegetables cannot be determined by sight alone, he'd always been shy of cooking them.
Clinical depression is associated with pancreatic cancer, and, when the cancer impairs the pancreas' ability to secrete insulin, diabetes -- which is associated with schizophrenia.
In the case of my friend, I suspect that because he relied on alcohol for most of his calories for most of his adult life and loved sugar, that both substances mainly and possibly exposure to industrial solvents, including the use of isopropyl alcohol to relieve joint pain, and the use of painkillers may have contributed to both the heart attack and accelerated the development of pancreatic cancer.
He also had anger management issues especially with respect to social communication. Yet he evolved from having a god complex to a philosophy of "it's my way or the high way" mixed with "only the most loyal should endure my final moments".
And endure his final moments I did.
In retrospect, both my parents liked him a lot because he was sociable.

Positive Atttude Towards Sexuality By Parents Benefits Child's Comfort With Sexuality
http://www.springerlink.com/content/x32030w12p504r05/
In the Archives of Sexuality, research has shown that a positive attitude toward sexuality can be beneficial for a child's comfort with his/her sexuality. As well, such comfort is not impaired by sleeping in the parents' bed or by exposure to nudity.
Thus, sleeping with the parents will not harm children, nor will early exposure to nudity.
What will traumatize children may be a negative attitude towards sexuality through their childhood. Therefore, negativity displayed by parents towards sexuality (be it homosexual or heterosexual behavior) may impair a child's comfort with sexuality.
This confirms advice governed by common sense that it's best not to make a big fuss about inappropriate displays of sexuality.

The Anatomy of a Mass Murderer
Readers of this entry should click on the header for this entry, then Google "Cho Seung Hui", and read over the Washington Post articles about what the authorities uncovered about Cho.
Otherwise, you will be wondering why I mention things you never knew about. If you can't do your research about the Virginia Tech shooter, then you can skip this entry.
This is what has been revealed about Cho:
FWIW, the planning (including the sociology course Deviant Behavior) points to a lack of mental illness at the time he shot Emily Hilscher, Ryan Clark and 30 other students.
Rage, yes. Mental disorder, no.
And once again, nobody followed up on Cho. Everyone just thought he was a loonie and *ran away mentally screaming in abject fear*.
Meanwhile, speculations about autism and mental illness are denigrating both communities.
At the root of this, the Cho family's social isolation probably subtly contributed to Seung's spiral into madness.
His mother feared demonic possession. His dad worked too hard. And his sister tried to pretend this problem did not exist.
Thus, the family dynamics fueled the genesis of Cho as mass murderer.
Nothing was done to help Seung. Instead the whole family retreated into social isolation. IMHO, Mrs. Cho's search for a Koren evangelical exorcist indicates that that social isolation made have caused her to delve deeper into the Korean evangelical community.
Yet she was unable to inculcate any discipline in her son to overcome depression. Violent rage is a symptom of depression in men. Even the murder indicates by its planning (including chaining the doors to the floor he was on) that his depression had a psychotic component.
In short, he had a mental illness; however, because he was uncommunicative with the mental health authorities in December 2005, they assumed he was stable.
Thus, by his silence he probably mystified even the mental health professionals.
Yet, now that his secret was out, he became mentally unstable. Hence the arson. Quite probably, the promiscuity he claimed to have seen in one girl's eyes was reflected in all the girls he befriended after October 2005.
This fear of women reflects a lack of internalization of compassion -- a fear of the inner feminine to balance out his masculinity.
In a twisted way, Cho's victimization of women through stalking and even by shooting Emily Hilscher and other women afterwards would suggest a rejection of the mind's urge to overcome the Oedipal complex.
Even so, by killing himself, Cho made up for taking 32 lives, for that was the honorable thing to do.
Yes, suicide does make up for murder. This is why such a thing begins with murder, and ends with suicide.
Otherwise, you will be wondering why I mention things you never knew about. If you can't do your research about the Virginia Tech shooter, then you can skip this entry.
This is what has been revealed about Cho:
- He had a sociology course called Deviant Behavior at Norris Hall.
- His first weapon was the Walther P90, which was purchased back in February.
- He was not only silent but violent as a child, and once hit his sister very hard.
- His mother knew Cho was austistic, but rather than get help for his developmental delay, retreated into social isolation that the whole family endured.
- He wrote about violence in high school.

France's New Censorship Law to "Prevent Riots"
The French Constitutional Council has approved a law that criminalizes the filming or broadcasting of acts of violence by people other than professional journalists. The law could lead to the imprisonment of eyewitnesses who film acts of police violence, or operators of Web sites publishing the images, one French civil liberties group warned on Tuesday.
The council chose an unfortunate anniversary to publish its decision approving the law, which came exactly 16 years after Los Angeles police officers beating Rodney King were filmed by amateur videographer George Holliday on the night of March 3, 1991. The officers’ acquittal at the end on April 29, 1992 sparked riots in Los Angeles.
If Holliday were to film a similar scene of violence in France today, he could end up in prison as a result of the new law, said Pascal Cohet, a spokesman for French online civil liberties group Odebi. And anyone publishing such images could face up to five years in prison and a fine of €75,000 (US $98,537), potentially a harsher sentence than that for committing the violent act.
What total stupidity!
Such censorship is not unlike the criminalization of political dissent.
It will hide things like the State underreporting violence, and even allow the State to bully dissenters into admitting to crimes they never committed without being reported.
Very few people know that Ottawa tried to bribe political dissenters at the 2001 Quebec City free trade demonstration. Dissenters were offered $150-250 to admit guilt to trumped up charges which they never committed.
In BC, the courts sentenced an environmental protestor in ill health to 30 days in a prison. Within a month of her release she died, and it is the direct result of her imprisonment. BC authorities deny this.
Indeed, the Premier and his henchmen demonized the protestors who disrupted the Olympic Clock announcement back in March.
As well, the VPD attempted to incite a riot among the protestors.
That's not democracy; that's mob rule.

Less is More: The Sane Harm Reduction
With regard especially to marijuana and all recreational drugs, LESS IS MORE.
In short, do enough to be happy not delirious, psychotic, or out of your mind.
If you haven't the willpower to have fun on one drink, one puff, one hit, one line, or one pill, then you have no concept of the word MODERATION.
And yes, when your substance use becomes abuse, I hope you find it in yourself to check yourself into the nearest mental health & addictions centre.
This goes for cigarette smokers and hungry people too.
Doing anything to excess is almost a form of mental illness.

Poverty As Social Protest
I am a person with disabilities as social protest.
For this is the closest in the post-modern world that I can get to becoming a sadhu in Western society.
Yet this will not get me committed except to a worthy cause. It is also unworthy of me to have normal desires and passion.
It is against my rights to force me to work a 40 hour week just to obtain taxes from me to oppress the homeless and the mentally ill.
By not forming a Mental Health Commission and a Homeless Commission, the Canadian government is thus oppressing the homeless and the mentally ill.
The only way I will support my poverty is through volunteerism and minimal part-time work.
***This entry will be edited over the next week as I add to it.

My Dad Died Today
1921-2007 86 years of sticking it to the Man
Word up: control your anger or get a stroke. My dad suffered 12 years as a stroke victim. What a winer!
What I learned from observations of my father over the years:
If alcoholism leads you to be anxious in crowds, then it's in your best interest to discuss it with your doctor and find ways of getting backbone other than through the bottle.
Never think retirement means sitting in front of the TV watching sports drinking beer and beating on the wife. It also means that you have to do better than just help your friends. I mean, your wife is your first friend, aint she?
Don't ever make fun of any of your kids, especially the odd one out.
If one of your kid wants to run away from home and be a monk, then you should be honored by his hidden compassion and bizarre wisdom. It really isn't a shame when someone actually cares about the world than what he or she can get out of it.
If you do the "dumb farmer" routine too much, then all those elementary school successes will be forgotten.
If you're pissing against a building in what used to be Japtown, it really impresses the factory worker to turn around and say, "Wanna a piece of me?"
So the WW1 veteran was the only guy in Vernon who 'd take Gramma's money for the new digs after the war? And you guys had to wait until 1949 before they'd let you near the coast? Maybe this explains Clubvibes.
After 30 years of living with my folks, I've learned that whatever the Western world sees as bizarre behavior in the Japanese diasphora is actually the BS of shame, and Japan itself today is living in interesting times, indeed.
My best memory is bawling my head until my mom came out to scold me for waking her up. My dad and I bonded just before he went off to the sawmill to work. That is the ideal memory I have of him. Everything else basically shows how much of a sense of humor God has with the Japanese.

Won't You Please Let Me In (The Looney Bin)
If you're not crazy enough
in this brave new world,
if you're not hearing voices
or seeing things,
the Man won't let you into
the looney bin!
No, the Man won't let you into
the looney bin!
You can walk around all sad
and blue, suffering
in silence until you go mad,
but they won't let you into
the looney bin!
No, the man won't let you into
the looney bin!
For the only way in is
to hallucinate,
to say God is telling you
to be harm another,
or harm yourself,
to see the devil in a baby,
and try to kill it too...
Well, then though my hearing
is perfectly normal,
and my sight is clear,
my brain's inflamed
with a strong desire
to medicate this pain within.
So please let me in!
Oh, I am crazy enough,
though I don't hallucinate.
Oh, I am as mad as those
who inhabit your psychwards,
though my fears are washed away.
Oh, no voices plague me, but
my heart has something to say:
If I'm not crazy enough
in this brave new world,
if I'm not hearing voices
or seeing things,
won't you please let me into
the looney bin!
Oh, won't you let me into
