I live for the death
of misery everywhere,
for I really care
for the ones no one wants:
the helpless, the hated ones.

You who live for love

Nembutsu and the Liberation from Suffering

At the root of Jodo Shinshu is Name-calling, uttering the Nembutsu.

It is about gratefulness to Amida Buddha. In uttering the Nembutsu it is not the practitioner but Amida calling through hir.

Apart from the religious aspects, Jodo Shinshu is non-denominational in that all can benefit from seeing prayer or spiritual worship as the High Power calling/working through you.

This also goes for dance, especially related to spiritual activity, and moderate social drinking.

For the human spirit derives benefit in seeking liberation from human suffering in a manner that benefits all.

De-stigmatizing Mental Illness Requires Education

Mental illness stigma is similar to masturbation stigma. Some people do/have it but nobody admits to it in a crowd of strangers. ;)

Sadly though, Britney Spears can put out Touch of My Hand, but no word from Paris Hilton about her disorders at all. She sufffers from claustrophobia and may have mild ADHD. Her risky behavior looks prodromal for either bipolar or borderline personality disorder, though I nix the latter because she has had no known failed suicide attempts.

Chris Benoit is likely to have had borderline personality disorder, since concussions are comorbid with BPD, though steroid abuse is more likely. Though, if he had failed suicide attempts in the past, then he would be positive for BPD.

Usually, after the first and only psychotic incident, people in denial will go off meds due to side effects and pretend it never happened.

However, if there is a parent with recognized schizotypy (ranging from schizoid to schizo-affective to schizotypal to schizophrenic behavior), then a first-timer might go on to exhibit similar behavior (suspicion, paranoia, denial of relapse, delusions, anxiety, nervousness, love of nature and books, long time spent alone).

If economic conditions are adverse, then this could morph a first-time psychosis into a schizotypy.

For women, a caring and loving husband or soulmate can mitigate her schizotypy. There are a lot of eccentric women in long-term relationships who are successful, especially when they have learned how to deal effectively with stress. The same goes for men, but they too require a caring and loving wife or soulmate.

Undiagnosed mental illness is not the actual problem. If my unofficial research into drinking is any indication, people are self-medicating for an undiagnosed mental illness. A similar conclusion can be made about rereation drug use. Though, a refusal to acknowledge there is a problem is related to the current stigmatization of mental illness.

Because, sometimes alcohol use may indicate a coping skill to deal with undiagnosed mental illness, I feel that next to the posters against binge drinking and overdrinking in clubs, there should be posters bringing a human face to mental illness.

I currently get headaches from drinking alcohol, which means my self hypnosis is working. ;)

So, I feel substance abuse education goes hand in hand with mental health education. Why? My unofficial research shows that substance abusers are slightly more likely to be in denial that they are medicating a mental illness with alcohol and/or other drugs.

Susano-o, Storm God.
Susano-o, Thunder God
He of Destruction,
he who shits under his sister Amaterasu's throne.
Desecrator of the weaving room,

Amaterasu:
I don't trust you, you shout too loud
your very actions offend my sensibilities.
Now you come to my home,
claiming you mean no harm.

Susano-o:
My sister, I promise to undergo
a ritual test to prove my goodwill.
I shall give birth, and if my intentions
are peaceful, then they'll all be boys.


Amaterasu grabs Susano-o's sword,
breaks it with her teeth, spitting out three pieces,
which upon striking the ground become goddesses.


Susano-o:
O sister dearest, may I have some
of your precious jewels?


Amaterasu:

and makes them into gods.

Growing wild with excitement
at his creative feat, he tore throughout
the world destroying everything

seeing herself reflected

Magnesum supplementation and fructose-free drinks may reduce auto-immune inflammation

The metabolic syndrome is a cluster of common pathologies: abdominal obesity linked to an excess of visceral fat, insulin resistance, dyslipidemia and hypertension.

This syndrome is occurring at epidemic rates, with dramatic consequences for human health worldwide, and appears to have emerged largely from changes in our diet and reduced physical activity. An important but not well-appreciated dietary change has been the substantial increase in fructose intake, which appears to be an important causative factor in the metabolic syndrome.

There is also experimental and clinical evidence that the amount of magnesium in the western diet is insufficient to meet individual needs and that magnesium deficiency may contribute to insulin resistance.

In recent years, several studies have been published that implicate subclinical chronic inflammation as an important pathogenic factor in the development of metabolic syndrome.

Pro-inflammatory molecules produced by adipose tissue have been implicated in the development of insulin resistance. The present review will discuss experimental evidence showing that the metabolic syndrome, high fructose intake and low magnesium diet may all be linked to the inflammatory response.

In many ways, fructose-fed rats display the changes observed in the metabolic syndrome and recent studies indicate that high-fructose feeding is associated with NADPH oxidase and renin-angiotensin activation. The production of reactive oxygen species results in the initiation and development of insulin resistance, hyperlipemia and high blood pressure in this model.

In this rat model, a few days of experimental magnesium deficiency produces a clinical inflammatory syndrome characterized by leukocyte and macrophage activation, release of inflammatory cytokines, appearance of the acute phase proteins and excessive production of free radicals.

Because magnesium acts as a natural calcium antagonist, the molecular basis for the inflammatory response is probably the result of a modulation of the intracellular calcium concentration. Potential mechanisms include the priming of phagocytic cells, the opening of calcium channels, activation of N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) receptors, the activation of nuclear factor-kappaB (NFkB) and activation of the renin-angiotensin system.

Since magnesium deficiency has a pro-inflammatory effect, the expected consequence would be an increased risk of developing insulin resistance when magnesium deficiency is combined with a high-fructose diet.

Accordingly, magnesium deficiency combined with a high-fructose diet induces insulin resistance, hypertension, dyslipidemia, endothelial activation and prothrombic changes in combination with the upregulation of markers of inflammation and oxidative stress.

Magnesum supplementation and fructose-free drinks in a low-carb diet will help reverse the effects of metabolic syndrome.

It will also relieve anxiety on the long run.

Wild Yams Can Prevent Pregnancy

On Chovil's page on his ongoing delusions, this was the only part that was coherent:

I remember reading "The Sexual Life of Savages" by Malinowski, and reading about the earliest pornographic film that has survived, "The Grass Sandwich", currently in one of the American Sex Institutes. I researched human sexuality through the ages a lot and came to the conclusion that women were once much more sexual than they have been in recorded history. I think that human culture was not stressed to survive in their environments before the last ice age, physically or socially. Societies were probably matriarchal then and much more sexual. Remnants of female sexual expression such as the isolated Trobiand Islanders visited by Malinowski in the late 19th century were now quite unique. The Pacific Islanders didn't have a word for work in their language. Malinowski recorded that women have their first pregnancy at about 25 years old even though "their vaginas are filled with men's semen" from a very young age to quote an elder Malinowski talked to. Malinowski couldn't figure out why the young women didn't get pregnant at age 16 like the Europeans.

Hormones are a very highly evolved, and complex system. I took an endocrinology course at university, and science understands very little about what evolutionary role hormones have. It is quite possible that age of reproductive capability would be controlled by the endocrine system as affected by environmental and social stress. It makes sense in evolutionary terms. When environmental stress increases you want a greater rate of reproduction to compensate for inevitable losses. When times are good, and what we would say is idyllic, you want reproduction to replace just the people lost to old age. Our sexuality isn't lost per se, it has been buried, and the troubles that adolescents girls have with self esteem, and eating disorders is probably dependent on how much we suppress and discourage their sexuality.

I was really struck when I became interested in the biology of sexuality that there was virtually no information on the subject in any of the university libraries I searched. There is no history of sexuality, no evolution of sexuality, and virtually no biology of human sexuality in any library in Canada. In fact very little is known about female sexuality. The female orgasm is marked by the contraction of the pubococygeus muscle and I've only felt that contraction during sex once in my life. The G-spot orgasm almost disappeared in the 20th century, probably the vaginal orgasm that Freud was so criticized for in the 1970's. Our ability to enjoy sexual pleasure has been seriously compromised around the world, which makes books like "The Sexual Life of Savages" and temples like those at "Konarak" windows to a world we otherwise couldn't imagine, at least not without public censure. I would guess that the virus upset our evolutionary balance and put pressure on endocrine systems to allow reproductive capability at an earlier age, which caused the population growth, which increased the social pressures and adversely affected the development and experience of sexuality in adolescence.

Chovil suggests that pregnancy is related to stress, and that stressors increase the risk of conception. He suggests that this explains teenaged pregnancy while primitive societies can have teens having sex from 12 and not getting pregnant until 25.

I guess the researcher of those islanders did not see the female village elders hand out the enourmous quantities of wild yams to the young women having sex. It is well known that wild yams contain phyto-estrogens which act as natural contraceptives.

Then he conveniently forgets about the infertile couples who barely conceive unless given hormone treatment, which may be because of estrogen-like substances leaching from plastic, herbicides and the like.

However, Chovil is right about both the biology of sexuality and the history of sexuality being a recent rediscovery. More than likely, prior to the modern era, sexuality was erased from the records by censors since the dawn of history.

One clue to this are the temple prostitutes of the Astarte cult, which may have resulted in the wake of the dominance of nomads on horseback over matriarchal agrarian communes.

Another clue are the idols of fat naked women who are possibly representations of a Neolithic fertility goddess. This woman is similar to the Irish goddess with the vulva on display.

In Japan, the mythological story of how the gods got the sun goddess out of the cave - a solar eclipse story - has one goddess showing her underparts to the other god, causing so much noise that the sun goddess was curious enough to see what was up. Quite possibly the stripper was her brother dressed in drag showing his privates, considering that cross-dressing is acceptable in Asian culture.

Overall though, the increasing stress of the world does not lead to increased pregnancy. Rather, the stressed girls are the one more likely to seek comfort in premarital sex, which results in a higher risk of pregnancy.

Unfortunately, it looks like wild yams are not a popular treat for young girls in developed nations. If they were, then teenaged pregnancy could be cured!

Classlessness is Socialism's Threat Arising from and Causing the Rich's Continued Oppression of the Underclass

When the middle class ignore their underclass, then they are merely co-opting with the rich.

When they defend the underclass, the rich will see to it that the ringleader is condemned.

Our country is only democratic when it sees the underclass as equal as the middle class, and teaches the rich to do so.

If anything the rich precipitate the class struggle daily. They do so by controlling what we see on the news, on TV, and at the movies. Also, they control what we hear on the radio and MTV.

Finally, they have even made a person a commodity, rather than a human being.

Since the rich have control of the factories, the publishing firms and even the multimedia industry to manufacture the tools of oppression, a person's life can be threatened, be it by arms, propaganda or the spectacle.

Yet the underclass must even remember that it alone is the master of its own existence, not the thug who holds her at gunpoint or the innuendo of politics or even art depicting life on the theatre.

True freedom from such oppression cannot be gained by licentiousness, for our liberation and eventual classlessness is only possible through limitations on freedom called laws.

Instead, such freedom can only be found through the early establishment of one's spiritual path, not through the joining of a religious organization but through interfaith education.

For such freedom is necessary to realize that interdependence will help to establish classlessness in a society still enslaved and ruled by the rich.

One need only look to such countries as Danmark and Sweden as two models of excellence in establishing the social welfare state necessary to bringing fruit to classlessness.

CBC: Government moving to access personal info, sparking privacy fears

Government agencies are moving to gain access to telephone and internet customers' personal information without first getting a court order, according to a document obtained by CBCNews.ca that is raising privacy issues.

Here is what the government wants to do:

Public Safety Canada and Industry Canada have begun a consultation on how law enforcement and national security agencies can gain lawful access to customers' information. The information would include names, addresses, land and cellphone numbers, as well as additional mobile phone identification, such as a device serial number and a subscriber identity module (SIM) card number.

The consultation also seeks input on access to e-mail addresses and IP addresses. An IP address is a number that can be used to identify a computer's location.

Here is the online site that the government hastily added along with an extended deadline of October 12.

Air1 Has Been Busy

Since its arrival in airways over Metro Vancouver February 13, 2006, the Air1 helicopter has been busy. However, the Air1 and Air2 website has documented success stories up to October 2012.

Recently Air1 has been spotted hovering over a suspected crack house in mid-August 2007. This occurred the week after a shooting at the notorious Byrd Pub at 108th Avenue and King George Highway followed by more shooting from a dwelling on 108th Avenue near 130th Street. Yet the RCMP media website has not documented this shooting at all.

From this lack of publicity, it can only be assumed that RCMP's investigation into the matter is on-going and not a probable threat to the neighbourhood since it is clear evidence of intergang warfare.

Let us hope Metro Vancouver gangsters obey Tupac Amuro Shakur's Thug Life code of ethics seriously and refrain from needlessly involving innocent citizen naive to crime in Surrey.

A Buddhist Offers Support to the Christians

Regarding getting volunteered for the ministry, I sympathize with Christians given this task.

As for myself, I know Buddhists are as dedicated to not strongly proselyting. Not that all Christians understand the concept of each person being their own personal Buddha AND everyone else being Buddha, to wake each person up to the spiritual life. Hopefully a few Christians who have had a rich friendship with Buddhists would pause to reflect on this.

If you can accept that you and God are at one during prayer, then you are on the right track. If you wish to simply explain this to children and adults equally well, then just point to your heart and say, "Jesus is right here." For Jesus is in your heart and mind when you are obedient to your parents, and fair to your friends, but He is also there when one turns the other cheek.

If a Buddhist such as I knows this, then that is the essence of proselyting, be it between equals or between mentors and children! Though it is best to teach the truth of the Bible than to perpetuate doctrine and dogma, both of which require an honest history of Christianity.

While I am Buddhist, because I am Japanese, my spiritual life is integral to my whole life.

Thus I offer my support to Christians, and pray my actions help to some of them open their hearts to a subtle flavor of God so that they may better savor their flavor called Jesus.

Am I Schizoid? Or Is This BPD?

September 11, 2007: Here is an example of a person with schizotypal or schizo-affective syndrome. I do not consider his behavior odd because he has been like that for the 15 years I've known him.

He is worse when he is around his older sister; who behaves similarly but with a tendency to interpret deep emotional upset as due to external spiritual influence and an artistic interpretation of her own personal spiritual development, where she referred to abstract art she did as 'angels'.

Earlier, the family experienced trauma consisting of death of younger brother and death of father.

A couple days ago, I visited my friend and he only spoke to me twice out of the whole six hours I was there.

While we did not discuss greys or Zeta Reticuli, being the topic of an earlier discussion a year ago, apart from me bringing it up, he just expressed a strong belief in Jesus for about two minutes and returned to his room.

IMHO I doubt if he is schizophrenic; it appears to be either schizotypal or schizo-affective, whichever one has a love for nature and solitude.

However, his behavior is no different from 15 years ago, except that he spends more time reading the Bible.

He is less fanatical though, because he knows of my Buddhist background. This implies that he is compassionate and cares about my feelings as much as I care about his feelings.

Now if he'd only get out more and socialize...

Perhaps my friend actually appears to have Kretschmer's syndrome.

It consists of the following triad of symptoms:
(1) unsociability, quietness, reservedness, seriousness, and eccentricity;
(2) timidity, shyness with feelings, sensitivity, nervousness, excitability, and fondness of nature and books, and
(3) pliability, kindliness, honesty, indifference, silence, and cold emotional attitudes.

If he is schizoid, then my friend is exhibiting neither schizophrenic nor schizo-affective nor schizotypal behavior. Rather he exhibits Kretschmer's triad of symptoms and might be typically schizoid, without any ongoing psychosis -- apart from the only recent occurance of a brief psychotic episode in 2004.

In my own case, I share the quality of "fondness of nature and books" but am sociable, open with my feelings, and have warm emotional attitude. If anything, I admit to being mildly schizoid under stress, but feel that overall I am mildly depressed due to the recent deaths of my father and a close friend.

However, I feel that I do not exhibit any of the behavior associated with my original diagnosis of borderline personality disorder, even when under mild stress.

In different ways, I may exhibit the triad of behavior associated with schizoid syndrome similar to my friend. However, my parents' marital stability has not added trauma to my life.

I feel this is because the traumatic loss in my family happened to me in adulthood, while in the case of my friend, it occurred in childhood (loss of brother) and adolescence (loss of father and breakup of relationship between parents).

Thus I challenge the diagnosis of borderline personality disorder. For I feel that I am relearning the skills necessary to control the negative aspects of the BPD, especially risk of suicide, and to accentuate its positive aspects, especially extroversion and willingness to take risks.

As well, it is becoming less difficult to control the comorbid disorder of depression. I have adapted to the mild hypomania that exhibits as insomnia by using the time while awake to express myself on this blog.

As for my friend I do not know of his own creative efforts. While I wish he would participate more often online, his anxiety about exposing his inner thoughts to public scrutiny may moderate any desire to be more friendly and outgoing.

However, the only way this is to come about is to accept his unsociability as a constant that has been there since I first met him over 15 years ago.

All this does for me is to become less schizoid, if such a thing is possible.

Perhaps I have borderline personality disorder. Being abandoned in the hospital at age 5 would have deeply affected me at the time, but it made me fiercely independent to the point of near unsociability.

Hopefully I am not over-analyzing myself in this entry.

CIA + Big Business = The Overclass

The wealthy have always used many methods to accumulate wealth, but it was not until the mid-1970s that these methods coalesced into a superbly organized, cohesive and efficient machine. After 1975, it became greater than the sum of its parts, a smooth flowing organization of advocacy groups, lobbyists, think tanks, conservative foundations, and PR firms that hurtled the richest 1 percent into the stratosphere.

The origins of this machine, interestingly enough, can be traced back to the CIA. This is not to say the machine is a formal CIA operation, complete with code name and signed documents. (Although such evidence may yet surface — and previously unthinkable domestic operations such as MK-ULTRA, CHAOS and MOCKINGBIRD show this to be a distinct possibility.) But what we do know already indicts the CIA strongly enough. Its principle creators were Irving Kristol, Paul Weyrich, William Simon, Richard Mellon Scaife, Frank Shakespeare, William F. Buckley, Jr., the Rockefeller family, and more. Almost all the machine's creators had CIA backgrounds.

During the 1970s, these men would take the propaganda and operational techniques they had learned in the Cold War and apply them to the Class War. Therefore it is no surprise that the American version of the machine bears an uncanny resemblance to the foreign versions designed to fight communism. The CIA's expert and comprehensive organization of the business class would succeed beyond their wildest dreams. In 1975, the richest 1 percent owned 22 percent of America’s wealth. By 1992, they would nearly double that, to 42 percent — the highest level of inequality in the 20th century. — The Origins of the Overclass

Hence the worsening problems in Bangladesh, Thailand, Nepal, the Philippines, and the Middle East.

This is in addition to the "War on Terrorism" backlash in the wake of 9-11 with NATO troops in Afghanistan and in Iraq, which erupted with civil war in 2004 after the US- and UK-led invasion of 2003.

As well, the Occupy Wall Street movement and other movements which sprang up all over the world are a response to the super-rich and its control of corporations and governments.

Though we are loathe to believe the super-rich are controlling the masses, the truth is the masses are exposed to advertising and other forms of corporate marketing. News media today (newspapers, radio and TV in addition to the Internet) broadcast advertisements to sell product to consumers.

The masses == consumers

As long as the masses buy product, the super-rich make money, whether as business owners, CEOs, and/or owners of stock market shares.

As of October 2011, America's top 1% own 40% of the wealth. Compared to the quote above, the prediction about them owning 42% in 1992 was optimistic.

It turns out that the best ally for the super-rich and the corporations they own stocks in is the CIA, which supported Big Business interests.

However, this is hardly news. Consumer society is more interested in product, and the politics that are hard to sell involve war.

This is why the latest scandal involving the CIA is about a retired General and a military intelligence officer who wrote fan fictions about her hero.

For sex sells.

Sympathy for the Ex-Convict - poem

He's done his time, all twenty years of it.
But there are nay-sayers hating him.
They want him out of their neighbourhood.
However, he's put a line in the sand.
Either get to know him and try to understand,
or go on hating the man he was twenty years ago.

While you can't change the tiger's stripes,

almost everyday.

Who's really Crazy Here? - poem

Just because I plainly speak the truth
I might be condemned by others,
and mercilessly harassed for it.
However, for every honest word
I've said I get more word back
wishing the worst for me for my troubles.
Some of them have said I deserve it,
but I must strongly disagree.
If the status quo is that fragile
that sincerity and honesty is suppressed,
then any hint of craziness is
a reaction to society's inability
to be open to truth and sincerity.
Indeed, society's urge to suppress
the honest and truthful people
only proves who's really crazy now.
And if I am crazy then perhaps
society had better take responsibility,
so that we both can get better.

Almost from the time they are born,
girls are trained to take care of children.
They're given baby dolls, dress them up
and pretend to feed them just like Mom.
At the same time, boys play sports,
play with video games and high-tech things.
Then they both grow up and fall in love,
only to raise a family together.
The woman wants the husband to share
equally in the chores and everything,
forgetting that she played with dolls
while he played with video games.
So if you want men to share equally
in their future lives with women,
don't you think we should let them
role-play with the girls and look after
their dolls while they go to work?
